It’s been a little while since I shared a photo, here’s one from Spain back in July. A stunning Cleopatra, nectaring on Viper’s Bugloss.
It was a funny walk, the morning began with excitement at encountering our first of these beautiful butterflies, relatives of the Brimstone we see in the UK, and as the day warmed up, we saw increasingly more of them until they were almost the most common species on the wing and we were walking past them, nearly (but not quite) impervious to the draw of photographs or closer observations!
This was one of the last we saw and I could resist!
