Some pictures taken today around the Dalmore Distillery in Alness. There was some great patches of bright sun surrounded by dark and stormy looking skies.

Really chuffed to hear I had won this award.

The Fragile Planet Award

Lewis MacKenzie - Winner
"Life among death"

Lewis MacKenzie's stunning image stood out and blew us away with its simplicity and underlying message that our planet is in constant peril. During the winter of 21/22 there were severe storms, one after the other, that flattened entire forests across the north east of Scotland and left a trail of devastation in their wakes. The landscape in the northeast of Scotland is damaged on a huge scale and may take decades to recover, so it is fresh in everyone's minds. Photographically, this image has all the key ingredients that stood out and caught our attention. The lone tree bathed in warm winter sunlight contrasts against a backdrop of fallen trees in a cold blue open shade light. The simple composition using the "Rule of thirds" makes for truly simple, but complex and stunning image.
