WEE WEDDING WHISPERS EP.6 - A BALMEDIE BEACH PRE-WED TO REMEMBER // One of the things I enjoy most about pre wedding shoots is that they give me and my couples a chance to try out fun and creative ideas before the wedding day.

For Rory and Chloe’s pre-wedding shoot at beautiful Balmedie beach, I brought along a wee Camp Snap camera for them to use as and it resulted in the most fun footage of them both, and also lovely, candid golden hour photos from my POV too!

The photos from a pre wedding shoot are always so special, but there was something really different about seeing pre-wedding shoot moments from the couple’s point of view too. It ended up being such a lovely wee keepsake for them to have alongside their portraits too.

It’s safe to say I’m very glad I gave it a go, and can’t wait to use this wee camera in future pre-weds. 📹

Send this to someone who would love this idea for their pre wedding shoot. 💌

I don’t think people realise how much it means when lovely feedback comes not just from the couple, but from their friends and family as well. 🥹

Bride Christina sent over screenshots from the group chat after her and Fraser’s wedding at and it made me smile so much because it’s exactly how I hope couples and guests feel on the day when working with me!

I always want it to feel like I’m naturally part of your day. I get involved when needed, calm nerves when needed, help things run smoothly in the background and then blend into the crowd the rest of the time catching the celebrations as they happen.

Guests noticing this is such a massive compliment because they experience the incredible atmosphere of the day just as much as the couple do!

So, a huge thank you to Christina, Fraser and their lovely guests for these comments. The best day from start to finish. ✨

If you’re wedding planning in Aberdeenshire and looking for a photographer who’ll feel like a natural part of the day, I’d love to hear from you. My inbox is always open. 🥰

Ever wondered what your guests are really up to during your wedding drinks reception? 🕺

Friends and family finally catching up properly, different pals introducing themselves to each other, kids running about outside, your granny sitting watching everything going on, that one person back at the bar for another round…

As a couple, you can’t physically be everywhere with everyone all at once on your wedding day, which is exactly why I love capturing these moments so much. While you’re chatting, hugging people, getting pulled from one conversation to the next and sneaking away for a few newlywed photos, there’s always loads of lovely little moments happening around you.

So many of these end up being the photos couples love most afterwards because you didn’t actually see them happen at the time. I always think wedding photography should capture the full atmosphere of the day, not just photos of the couple. All your favourite people together in one place is such a huge part of it. 💛

Looking for a wedding photographer in Aberdeenshire who’ll capture all the in-between moments too? Get in touch with your plans ✨

A PERFECT PITTODRIE HOUSE WEDDING // Laura has to be one of the calmest and coolest brides I’ve ever worked with. To be honest, the both of them just had such a lovely energy all day. Really relaxed, really go with the flow and just completely focused on enjoying the day together and spending time with their girls and loved ones!

They were also up for absolutely anything photo-wise, wandering wherever I suggested and just trusting me with it all, which resulted in some beautiful, sunny newlywed portraits around the venue grounds, exploring the nearby hay bales and of course some shots with their adorable St. Bernard pup, Millie.

One thing I always remember about this wedding though is their family photos. I always work with couples beforehand to plan group photos properly, but when you’ve got really little kids involved, sometimes the most difficult photo to get is simply everyone standing together at the same time! I remember looking through the photos at dinner time thinking I hadn’t quite managed to get ‘that’ family photo of the four of them that I’d hoped for because the girls were understandably busy being wee kids all day. 😂

And then completely by chance after dinner, it just happened naturally for a few seconds and I managed to catch some! They ended up being some of my favourite photos from their whole wedding.

Such a good reminder that sometimes the best photos really are just about being in the right place at the right time!

I swear this part of the wedding morning gets me every time…

Everyone’s holding it together, then they first see you looking sensational and it’s instant screaming, crying, running over for hugs and trying not to ruin their makeup. 😅

I think it always feels extra emotional because your bridal party have been there through all of it with you. The planning, the dress updates, countdowns, the overwhelming “I don’t know what I’m doing” moments…so seeing you all ready on the morning just hits differently for them.

And some of the reactions looking back through your wedding gallery are just brilliant. 🧡 Such a special part of the day for me as a wedding photographer every single time!

Send this to the friends who’ll be reacting exactly like this on your wedding morning 🫶

One of the most common worries my couples have while wedding planning is whether different groups of people will actually mix on the day 😅 family meeting friends, work pals meeting uni friends, people travelling up who’ve never met before…

But usually when the reception is well thought out and people feel comfortable, mixing usually happens far more naturally than you think it will.

I think because weddings are one of the only times in life where all your favourite people are together in one place, it can add additional pressure onto you both. From my experience capturing so many Aberdeenshire weddings, the best wedding receptions always feel less like separate groups and more like one big shared atmosphere by the end of the night.

There’s definitely a few things I’ve noticed that help create that kind of feel naturally without forcing it, so hopefully this helps if it’s something you’ve been stressing about it while planning!

Save this for later when you’re planning your reception setup and make sure to send to your partner to assure them. ✨

A RUSTIC PRE-WED IN THE ABERDEENSHIRE COUNTRYSIDE // Lorna and Simon’s pre wedding shoot took us just outside Inverurie to the stables where Lorna keeps her horse, and I honestly loved this shoot so much.

Not just because it was such a peaceful and beautiful spot in the middle of the Aberdeenshire countryside, but because it actually meant something to them as well. I always say that those are the best kinds of locations for pre wedding shoots. Somewhere familiar, somewhere you already spend time together and somewhere that feels like ‘your’ life.

It was also one of those lovely locations I’ll probably only ever shoot at once, which made it feel even more special in a way. And now somehow their wedding at is tomorrow already 😭 I cannot wait to capture it!

If you’re newly engaged and thinking about a pre wedding shoot, your location really doesn’t need to be somewhere dramatic or over the top. Sometimes the places that already mean something to you end up being the best backdrop.

Show some love for Lorna and Simon tomorrow in the comments ↓💍

I feel like I spend so much time sharing everyone else’s stories and wedding days on here that I probably don’t share loads about myself most of the time. 😅

So here’s a few slightly random things you maybe wouldn’t expect about me, and I’m aware that some of these are definitely a wee bit controversial!

Be honest… which one did you not expect? 👀

A BEAUTIFUL BALLOGIE HOUSE WEDDING // Simon and Rachel’s wedding at last summer had a bit of everything…sunshine, showers, lots of laughs and a dancefloor nobody wanted to leave!

One thing that has stuck with me looking back is poor Simon waking up on the morning of the wedding feeling absolutely awful. Rachel had no idea, but a few family members did and I remember immediately opening up my emergency wedding day medicine bag to see if I had anything that could help. 😂

But adrenaline is a powerful thing because somehow between iced coke, toast and sheer determination, he completely pulled through and you genuinely would never have known. A good reminder that things don’t always go perfectly on wedding mornings and it always works out!

The weather also kept us on our toes all day, but Ballogie is SUCH a good venue for that. We dipped in and out between showers and still got the loveliest newlywed photos. The marquee setup there works so well no matter what the weather decides to do.

Rachel and Simon had also put so much thought into the details, including engraved perfume bottles with their wedding scents which was such a lovely touch.

And the evening… SO good. They had a saxophonist straight after the meal before the band started which kept the party going the whole time and got everyone straight onto the dancefloor.

If you’re heading along to Ballogie Open Day today and still venue hunting in Aberdeenshire, definitely keep an eye out for how versatile the space is. It’s such a lovely setting for a wedding day and works beautifully in every season. 💛

The reality of what goes on during your wedding photos…

This is basically how it goes most of the time. Behind those beautiful, polished final gallery photos there’s usually a few seconds of us just working with whatever’s happening. A bit of wind, something not quite going to plan, everyone having a laugh and just rolling with it.

Those few slightly chaotic behind the scenes moments are usually what leads to the photos you end up loving the most!

Stewart and Claudia were fully up for it, just laughing their way through and not taking it too seriously, which ended up creating some of the most fun newlywed photos in their gallery.

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer in Aberdeenshire who will roll with whatever the day throws at us and keep things fun, get in touch with your plans✨
