World Photography Day!

Photography has been a constant in my life for a long time. It’s a journey that has taken me from chasing sunrises along the Suffolk coast to finding beauty in the quiet chaos of our woodlands. I’ve photographed everything from buzzing bee hives to beautifully plated dishes from local restaurants. More recently it’s taken a little further afield to the Peaks and Wales.

Each shoot brings a new opportunity to explore the world around me. Whether it means an early start or a long drive, it’s all worth it for those moments when the light shifts, the colours transform, and something truly special unfolds. These are the moments that words often can’t capture, but a single image can.

In recent years, photography has also become part of my professional life, with a focus on commercial work; capturing food, drinks, and interior spaces with the same creative eye.

To all my fellow photographers out there; keep chasing the light, exploring and capturing those moments that would usually be missed. Keep committing those frames to eternity in print and digitally. And keep showing the world in a different way, in your way, through your eyes, as you all are making it a brighter place!

Sanguineness , Westleton Heath

A scene I shot at the end of last summer. It was a magical morning on Westleton Heath, conditions, light and heather all collided. This year it hasn’t been the same, I visited the heath a few weekends ago, it was parched, dusty and pretty lifeless. The news of Dunwich Heath being on fire came only a few days later being within miles from the fires makes it all feel a lot more real. It was a reminder of how fragile the world we live in.

Juvenile Male Pheasant, Dunwich Heath

Some wildlife moments will always stick in my memory. After the wildfires on Dunwich Heath, I have found myself reflecting on it as a place and the part it has played in my photography journey.

Back in 2019, a friend and I were wandering the heath after sunrise when we were joined by a juvenile male pheasant. It came to within a few feet of where we were sitting, and I started photographing it. What ensued was something I will probably never encounter again. The pheasant was within arms length, it was not scared and he even followed us as we headed back to the car. I was able to capture the pheasant in all its glory, a portrait of him, the texture of his face and the glow of his feathers. It was as if it was posing for us. It was a magical moment that I will never forget, not only because of what happened that day, but also because of its timing. A few things changed in life the week after taking these and this moment was memory that softened that a little as I look back.

Starting to plan ahead for this year calendar, it is going to be a little different, as it will feature images from Suffolk, the Peak District and the Pembrokeshire coast. A true celebration of the places I have explored beyond the county border as well some favourites from up the road too.

Let me know if you are interested in ordering one, so I can plan the order with the printers and which cover you like the best. One is from Aldeburgh and the other is from Shingle Street.

Pre-orders will be available soon.
