Kintailkit Photography - Johan Maclennan Chasing special moments in nature. I love photography and my camera comes everywhere with me! Noctography (Night shots) is my favourite area in photography.

I take a lot of pride in the fact I don't use any computer photo processing programs to alter my images, what you see is straight off the camera and I think long and hard about my camera settings before taking an exposure. Familiar places appear in a surreal light and can appear like an alien landscape as the stars appear in scenery we are familiar only seeing in daylight. Using a combination of l

ong exposure time, a wide shutter and increasing the cameras sensitivity to light allows me to shoot in dark conditions and show our stunning Scottish landscapes bathed in moonlight with familiar constellations above the lochs and mountains. I also adore Wildlife and anything I capture is magical! I hope you all enjoy my images!

Brochan and Taghan's antics from the past week. I now have two Great Spotted Woodpe**ers visiting alongside the 5 Eurasian Jays. On my way to the site today I heard two Ravens cronking so perhaps they'll pay a visit soon 🤞
In other news, it was my birthday last week and my lovely other half got me...... a new trail camera! 😁Exciting times ahead as I can now create a second site elsewhere! Watch this space! 👀
Hope to start Phase 2 at my current site soon, Phase two is staying situ for some time, I will be concealed in a bag hide 🥸. Normally I top up the feeders, change memory cards and leave quickly. Any changes take time for wild animals to adjust to so the bag hide will be a slow process but hopefully successful! For now enjoy some clips 📷📽🦡🐾🌲

Another clip of Brochan enjoying some peanuts! 🦡 Good old Facebook seems to be limiting views / interaction with this page so here's hoping loading a clip every few days will remedy that 🤞🤞

A couple more videos captured this week. See the previous post for the full story! ☺️ Featuring my resident Badger called Brochan and resident pine marten called Taghan (original I know!) Site doing well, all other regulars including big male wood pe**er and the jays enjoying the spot! 🦡🐾🦜🌲

🤫Black Isle wildlife at work. A wee project I've had on the go for 6weeks or so is proving to be a success! 🥳 After months of tracking wild animal p**p 💩 and trails 🐾 in one of the extensive forests🌲that run the length of the Black Isle, I set up a site nearly a mile away from the main (and very infrequently used track) deep into the dense forest. I found a nice spot where some animal tracks crossed over. It was very quiet, no birds or anything in this part so I was sceptical about how successful this would be. However, 6 weeks later and the spot is buzzing with birds, coal, blue and great tit, Crested Tit , Jays, great spotted woodpe**ers, siskins, tree creepers, dunnock, robin and chaffinch. I also have nightly visits from a big burley badger (who will often trash the bird feeders if he can reach them!) A few roe deer, small rodents but my most prized beastie and biggest reason for setting up the site - Pine Martens. A firm favourite of mine I've only had a tiny handful of special encounters where they've appeared and I've enjoyed a few moments of their company but a lot of the time its seeing them dash across the road. Their poo is fairly identifiable if your in the know so finding their poo on the trail next to an animal track that disappeared into the trees and bushes seemed like a good place to start. Many weeks passed with no pineys to show but the badger was a regular as were the noisy and delightfully intelligent jays. Then finally one night he appeared out of the darkness, very scittish for his first few visits, then gradually becoming braver, staying around for longer, then eventually this last week he's been visiting during daylight! The project continues but for now heres some of my forest friends! 🥰🐦🦡🌲🌲🦌🐾

I was going to hold off until the excitement calmed down but the last 72 hours have been busy, fun and tiring in all the right ways. Reflecting on the last few days as I wind down for bed I thought I’d pop a few pics up. Fridays aurora storm was definitely my best one to date ( this coming from someone who chases aurora all winter in Scotland and in a good season can see 2 -3 displays a month) I have only two other storms that have come close to Fridays one. Normally I’ll race around in the car scouting out locations for creative shots but I was so lost in the moment I simply stood in the field opposite my home. It stretched from horizon to horizon and danced with every colour possible there was turquoises and teals mixed with purples and pinks and it shot out these enormous rays and pillars of light. Normally I am wrapped up in thermals, hat, gloves and winter boots but I was far too warm in my jacket which gave the experience a strange feeling being so late in the year.
Here’s just a handful of photos
Taken in Culbokie, Black Isle around midnight

Birds of Majorca. Beautiful area of Puerto Pollença in north east Majorca - home to some fantastic birds. Total of 51 species seen but not all photographed. Most of my Majorcan target species were seen but my most prized species of the European Bee Eater alluded me this trip but my partner managed a cheeky sighting on one his bike rides! 😶
Bird sightings well worth the 100s of insect bites! 😣
