Forty Farms: A behind-the-scenes look at the making and publishing of her award-winning book.

Join award-winning Cumbrian photographer, author and RPS Fellow Amy Bateman for a behind-the-scenes look at the making and publishing of her award-winning book.

In this one-hour seminar, Amy will share the creative journey behind the project, from developing the initial idea and shaping the visual narrative, through to photographing people, place and rural life with honesty and emotional depth. She’ll explore how her documentary-style approach captures the quiet, often overlooked moments that bring a story to life, and how those images were brought together into a published body of work.

Perfect for photographers interested in storytelling, environmental portraiture, documentary projects and book-making, this talk offers an inspiring insight into the process of creating meaningful photographic work from concept to finished publication.

I flew my drone view Elterwater Quarry in the Lake District. From above, the flooded quarry almost forms a perfect, unintentional heart shape, made even more striking by the vivid turquoise water. 💚The colour is said to come from minerals and heavy metals released from the ancient Borrowdale Volcanic Group rock beneath the surface, formed during intense volcanic activity 🌋 over 450 million years ago. It’s one of those locations where the geology of the Lakes completely shapes the landscape and the colours you see through the lens.

What a day. 🌤️
Our photography group came together at the farm today, right on the edge of the Lake District, everything just fell into place. The weather showed up better than forecast, the animals were on their best behaviour, and the models filled every shot with something special.
Days like this are why we do it. The pictures speak for themselves.
