Port Appin revisited … taking a day away from our studio, Gill and I (as well as our ‘constant canine companion’, Gypsy dog) drove 50 miles north of Kilmartin on Sunday to Port Appin and a great lunch at The Pierhouse Hotel. A lovely day altogether.

Tuesday was our 36th wedding anniversary and it has been our custom to go for a walk somewhere new or special or both; walk and have lunch.
In the past we have visited Seil Island, Duntrune, Ardfern, Skipness and many other wonderful Argyll locations.

This year, so many venues were closed or only open in the evenings, or meant a long drive to get there. In the end we opted for a long-time favourite — Crinan and the Canal — almost on our doorstep.

After a beautiful meal in The Crinan Hotel’s Seafood Bar, we skirted the building site which is Crinan Basin at present and had a pleasant if blustery stroll along the Canal towpath. Here’s hoping the canal reopens soon to welcome visitors. Happy Anniversary my beautiful Gill.

And a Happy Birthday to my late mother, who passed away in October 2019. Born on 1st March (St David’s Day) in 1927, today is thus always a special day of remembrance for another very special woman.

A few nights ago, on our late walk, Gypsy Dog got a fright and began barking at a fierce animal at a garden gate.
In th light of day however, friendships were made, the feersum creetcher even trying to kiss an ear… or was it a surreptitious bite?

Gill’s latest floral creation — an explosion of warm vibrant colours — just the thing to combat the unseasonal chill in the Argyll air at the moment.

A few images of our May Bank Holiday trip to Port Appin for Gill’s Birthday. A great day, blessed with unexpected sunshine and a lovely seafood lunch at The Pierhouse restaurant — looking to Lismore island and the Morvern Beinns. Memorable day, complete with visits to splendid Kinlochlaich Garden Centre (including birthday plant purchases) and Argyll Pottery near Benderloch.

For our 34th wedding anniversary, we crossed the Atlantic for lunch at Tigh an Truish on the Island of Seil. A blustery day as befits the times.
Arrived back in Kilmartin to discover that Mad Vlad has brought out his nuclear missiles. Does anyone else feel that they’ve stumbled into an alternate universe or a badly thought out 1950’s B movie? Sadly, and frighteningly, this is all too real.

Kilmartin Hotel car park unfortunately not large enough to accommodate these visitors yesterday evening. However, the village green makes a perfect helipad.
