The King’s Town (1299 Charter) History. There had been a developing town where the River Hull met the Humber for about 100 years before the Charter. It was called Wyke and was owned by the Abbey of Meaux. In 1296 King Edward I bought Wyke, and the neighbouring settlement of Myton, from the monks of Meaux, as an investment and to provide a base for supplying by sea his troops in Scotland.

In 1299 (1 April 1299) a charter was put in place by King Edward who gave the town a new name, Kingston upon Hull, prior to this it was known as King’s upon Hull (shortened to The King’s Town). The King's Town business is all about the beautiful city of Kingston upon Hull seen through my eyes and camera lens. Kingston upon Hull will become the City of Culture in 2017 therefore through my photography I hope to show visitors and locals the beauty of the city.
