The Last Night

Yesterday we came to the end of what has been a great season for Kinross Camera Club. We finished, as always, with our Annual Competition for Colour Print, Mono Print and DPIs, judged on this occasion by Guy Phillips. Just over 70 images in total, showcasing some of the best from the year as well as many unseen photos having a go at reaching top spot.

Here are the DPIs from last night that were either Placed, 1st, 2nd and 3rd or which were awarded Highly Commended and Commended, covering both our Advanced and Foundation sections.

The club has planned a series of summer events so members do have an opportunity to get together again before the new season starts in Spetember.
If there are any folk out there thinking of joining the club and would like to meet us on one of these events then please get in touch, either by messaging here or through our website.

Have a great summer everyone.....

Creative Digital Competition - Results

Yesterday was our penultimate competition of this season when we held the Creative Digital in the Church Hall. A relatively small but varied and 'creative' entry ranging from simple long exposure techniques to more complex composites and 'digital art' examples.

Here are the top three images with Kenny Reddington achieving 1st place with 'Bursting with Squirrels', a multi-exposure composite of a leaping squirrel. Congratulations to Kenny.

Thackery Competition Results
An excellent evening last night at our weekly meeting as our judge for the event, George Robertson, gave his verdict on the 32 images submitted for the Thackery Print Competition.
The fact that there were just 18 colour and 14 mono images actually made the evening more of a success as George had adequate time to give each image a thorough critque, offering feedback and suggestions for improvement to the individual authors, all but one of whom were in the hall to hear it first hand.

Here are the top three images from both the Colour and Mono sections along with an additional seven which were award 'Highly Commended' and 'Commended'.

***HERE IS THE LATEST UPDATE FOR KCC EVENTS IN MARCH 2026 ***

This month photo is from one of our newest members, Sam Murray and his image titled 'Graceful Giant'.

5th March 2026
Hall Meeting – Thackery Print Competition
George Robertson will be our judge for the evening where we get to hear exactly what he thinks of the print entries submitted, both Colour and Mono. We have 32, a maximum of two per author per section, with a wide variety of genres. Plenty for our judge to get his teeth into who will, as usual, be providing valuable feedback on all the submissions with just three rising to the top placings, 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Good luck to all the entered.

12th March 2026
Hall Meeting – Practical Night
This will be our third and final Practical event of this season and is being dedicated to Post Processing. The hall will be set up with several workstations, all working on their own specific topic, dictated by the input received from members prior to the night. Each station master will provide help with technique specific to the topic but will also be available to assist with any other processing question that members may ask on the evening. Through demonstration and hands-on practical learning, the aim is to provide members with help, advise and tips to develop their own Post Processing skills.

19th March 2026
Zoom Event – External Speaker, Stan Farrow
Stan will present to us his talk on ‘Abstract Photography’.
Stan describes this presentation as a little bit different in style to his other photographic talks. It discusses why photographers should consider doing abstract work, and how this might have a spin-off into their other day-to-day photographic work. The presentation includes a discussion of what abstract art is, and whether there is truly such a thing as abstract photography. It makes comparisons between abstract art and abstract photography.
Stan will also offer us suggestions about how to create our own abstract images using some simple techniques that possibly haven’t occurred to us before. This includes ideas about what to photograph and will give us some examples and ideas to try out for ourselves.

26th March 2026
Our last meeting of March will be a two-part event, with the Creative Digital Competition sharing the evening with a Foundation Member focused activity.
The Creative Digital Competition is a re-scheduled event from earlier in the season. We have 26 creative images to be judged by the audience on the night, ranging from relatively simple, but unusual, post-processing effects to quite complex composite imagery.
For the second half of the evening we will hold a Foundation Member focused event which will consist of our Foundation members presenting some of their work, giving us some insight into the 'Why' and 'How' and, should they request it, taking feedback from the audience. As always Kinross Camera Club likes to ensure that the beginners and less experienced members get the opportunity to shine and develop their skills.

Our camera club welcomes all abilities from seasoned photographers to those with no or little experience. If you have an interest in taking photos and would like to learn how to improve your photography, whether you use a smartphone or a fancy camera, you will be made very welcome. We run a variety of weekly events including practical evenings, talks and competitions. So please get in touch if you would like to come along to a meeting just for a taster to see if it is for you.
For further information about our syllabus events please contact our secretary by emailing [email protected] and keep checking in on our Website and Face Book page for further updates.

CONGRATULATIONS...to Kinross Camera Club, who tonight won the annual 3-way competition, once again up against Cupar and St. Andrews camera clubs.
Fifteen images per club with no more than two entries per author and Kinross topped the scoring, with judge Stewart Dodds, giving us 277 points, with Cupar on 267 and St. Andrews with 262.

Five images were awarded the top scoring mark of 20 and four of those were from Kinross CC. Here are those four images which helped push us to top spot.

John St Clair DPI Competition Results
This evening we had 48 entries from 17 members for our judge, Ken Lindsay, to assess and feedback to us. Ultimately six people, three from both the Advanced and Foundation sections, rose to the top as Ken's favourites on the night.

Congratulations to those members and to the many who also came away with either a Highly Commended or Commended award.

Here are the top six with a selection of the awarded images but all can be seen on our website at the following link:
