Ben Boswell - Potters

Ben Boswell - Potters Photographing potters has interested me for over 30 years. Time now to start doing something with the pictures.

From time to time there may be other pictures thrown in too but this is really about potters, ceramic artists and ceramicists.

Dumfries Royal Infirmary have some spaces in their carpark fenced off to protect the nesting oystercatchers. The oystercatchers seem to be looking after themselves. I do like living in Scotland.

I was at Ceramic Art London, on Friday last week. Unlike previous visits I was not there to take pictures, but I did take one, a ‘mugshot’ of Peter Black

I spent the day in Eastbourne at the opening of AIA comrades in art. A fascinating exhibition at the Towner Gallery about the Artists International Association which was a collective of artists who felt that art could be used to encourage political change. My grandfather, James Boswell was one of the founder members and is well represented in the show

I visited Hyakkō, 100+ makers from Japan at Japan House in London. What a treat! A very tightly packed display of mostly functional ceramics, glass, lacquerware, basketry and wood laid out on tables. It felt a little like across between dinner and a shop, but without the food. If you find yourself in London take a trip to Kensington High Street

Traditional Japanese workwear to go with my new chisels, saws, marking knife and hammer. I had to get the matching socks too! I do hope this is all that’s required to become an accomplished cabinet maker (I am pretty sure there will be a lot of practice too)
