Cracking day for a bit of hill-walking. Managed the summit of Ben Venue in the Trossachs. Steep and craggy in places but worth the effort. Views to the Lochs - Katrine, Achray and Vennacher were the reward. Complete with a glimpse of the SS Sir Water Scott steamboat. Lovely Spring colour from the Birches everywhere.

Tree of the day - Love the big ears symmetry, colours and graphic simplicity of this little Silver Birch vignette.

Tree(s) of the day - Shambellie Wood - New Abbey

Many fine specimens of mature Scots Pine.
I took this back circa 1989 on a Mamiya 6x6 roll fim camera.
Still resonates with me after all this time.

Took a ramble up the Garple Burn by Balmaclellan the other day. Its been all of 15 years since I was last there. Such a wonderful piece of mostly native woodland generously occupying the slopes around this lovely watercourse. From the OS map this magical wee slice of Galloway has the following place names... Kate's Wood, Society Holm, My Lord's Cleugh, Deer's Den, Duncan's Pantry, Barscobe Wood, Bar Wood..... take your pick

I have however, always referred to it as "The Holy Linn" 🤔

The current show has "Rural Roads" as its theme.

Tree of the day - Carlingwark Loch on a very wee Crannog.
We have stylish and defiant contenders. Wee one is a Willow for sure but given the very watery world is the big tree an Alder or perhaps an Ash given the signs of die back on the upper branches ?

Trees of the day - methinks we have Gorse (aka Whin) Hawthorn, Willow Island and distant Oaks.

We have a bonnie wee loch just outside my village called Kilquhanity Loch. Always a joy to see especially when the light is special as it was on Friday pm. You know when you are near when the Canada Geese honk to announce your arrival
