Atherstone Hat Factory 🎩

The Hat Factory was a large-scale felt hat manufacturing site in Atherstone, active during the town’s peak hatting period in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Closing in 1999, marking the end of industrial hat production in the town as demand declined and cheaper imports took over.

The entire building was demolished earlier this year remains a firm favourite of ours in terms of industrial sites. A historic factory that provided jobs for hundreds of thousands of people throughout the years.

Dating back to the eighteenth century, this grand manor was completely gutted by a fire in 2016.

What a tragic sight this is. What was once an elegant home filled with valuables, now just sits abandoned and destroyed.

It's a wonder what the situation really is with this place. According to a news article it had people living on site with builders present. That was in 2022 and there were no signs of life when we visited.

The Collapsed Collection πŸš—

A large series of barns, nearly all collapsed on top of a massive classic car collection.

Truly a place like no other. Upon entry it just looks like a series of oddly angled sheds. It's really not until you squeeze through a gap that you really get an idea of the magnitude of vehicles left gathering dust.

This place just kept going with every corner revealing something more surprising than the last. We've seen a lot of cars in similar states but not an armoured car, Rolls Royce or fire engine and definitely not in the same location.

Believe that most, if not all of the vehicles have now been cleared and sold.

The Meat House πŸ„

This place earned its nickname from the unusual amount of hanging meat found throughout the house. As a prior warning, some of the pictures may be a little unsettling.

Sadly, since we last visited the house set alight, destroying the roof and we believe, most of its contents. The first image shows its current state and the rest are from previous years.

There are different versions of events as to what happened for this house to end up the way it has and to determine its true history. Including the most recent incident.

Nevertheless inside it is a treasure of past memories and a very sad one at that.
