What a beautiful day out on the fells of Bowland, chasing people round for Bowland Ultra 2026!

I'm excited to share that my film The Frozen Frog is being shown at in the coming months, so if you're heading out for dinner there, keep an eye out!

For those that haven't seen it, The Frozen Frog follows as he attempts to complete the first winter Frog Whitton round.

It was one insane day of filming and I couldn't have done it without the help of and , or indeed for lending us a canoe, and Tom Swannick for his motorbike!

If you want to see it, it's on Kendal Mountain Player and other online platforms.

Who else is craving a bikepacking trip? It's been over a year since I've been on one, and it's calling to me once again.

Who has some good recommendations for UK-based trips, and perhaps some further afield?

A couple of shots of me riding in Crete.

Here's one from an impromptu cycle tour round Crete last year. I planned the route entirely using , and so I didn't really know what the riding would be like until I arrived... Needless to say it didn't really go to plan, but I did get to sleep in the ruins of a roman town and in a 1000 year old monestary. The highlight though was finding this otherworldly 'big-gravel' road, descending around 900m over 10km - I still think it was the best day of riding I've had so far!

Shot April 2024

I've wanted to photograph this route for quite a while, so I jumped at the chance when I overheard a few people from the Lancaster bouldering wall were heading down.

'Just follow the river, you can't miss it' - directions echo through my mind as I carry my kit through some fairly remote woodland in the Lake District. I hadn't spotted a car I recognised in the parking location and I'd only met one of the guys climbing before, so I felt a little anxious as I walked.

All I can say it was worth the wait - the area felt more alpine than cumbrian, although the weather was representative of the latter. Very grateful for this impromptu shoot!

Image comprises of a long exposure for the foreground and a second shot for the climber.

Climber: Jacob Strong

Here is a Stable Auroral Red Arc (SAR). I believe they occur less frequently than the aurora borealis and can appear before or after a geomagntic storm. While SARs and the Aurora can occur simultaneously, they are caused by different interactions.

SARs are generated within the region contained by the Earth's magnetic field*, whereas the aurora borealis is generated through collision of energetic particles from the sun and the Earth's atmosphere.

* through the interaction of the outer plasmasphere (low altitude area of the space contained by the earth's magnetic field which is made up of a dense low energy plasma) and energetic ions of the ring current (an electrical current that encircles the Earth).

Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) over St. Bees head, Cumbria - 17/10/2024.

This was my second attempt at capturing a shot of this once-in-a-lifetime celestial event. The first was foiled by blanket cloud cover despite the forecast, and for a while it seemed like the same would happen this night as it was wall to wall cloud for the entire drive to the coast.

A slight mis-calculation saw the comet's trajectory heading right behind the cliffs and so I made a quick dash across the sands to more favourable observation spot. This posed another problem.. this night was also that of the Supermoon, meaning terrible astrophotography conditions so the comet was actually very difficult to see by naked-eye and much of it's detail including the very large tail couldn't really be seen. The close proximity of the moon also meaning big tides, and with St. Bees beach being so flat, the sea came in FAST! With wet feet and feeling somewhat deflated (and also more than a little bit hangry) I retreated to [slightly] safer ground and managed to grab about 60 images before comet C/2023 A3 bid us farewell.

Shot on Sony A7iii, Sony 70-200mm , iso2500, f2.8, 4 second exposure.

The Sun had been particularly active last week blasting out very powerful [X7 and X9] solar flares, meaning there was a strong possibility of visible aurora in the UK at some point in the following days with a bit of luck. Even with such dynamic solar events, there is no guaretee that the coveted light show will make an appearance as there are so many variables involved which need to align perfectly.

Monday night was one of these rare occasions. However, while the magnetometer data from was showing remarkable geomagnetic activity readings all night (a clear indicator of auroral activity present in the UK), dense cloud cover hid most of it from our view.

🎥 captured between 7.30pm and 8.50pm overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake.

It was an absolute treat to head up into the Scottish Borders this weekend to check out the 2024 National Enduro Championships. I was invited up by Matt (.ride_trail.guide) as his son was competing in the comp and it was the perfect excuse to catch up. Unbeknownst to me, Wayne (), one of the other guys I cycled with in Italy was also there with his son, and so it was quite the surprise when we bumped into each other!

It was an incredible experience to witness such fantastic riders over the weekend and it only fuelled my psyched to get out more on the bike.

I decided to leave my camera outside recording all night, wrapped up in a plastic-bag duct-taped to my tripod in case of rain. I was woken up in the night by the wind whipping around the van, but by some miracle, my trusty tripod help strong, didn't hit the deck, and allowed for this beautiful timelapse.

Thanks again to for the early warning system and and for the notifications and real-time data.
