What is my why?

Why do I take photos? Why horses? And why the outdoors..?

I grew up on a small farm in the deep depths of the Shropshire/Worcestershire countryside, in a very horsey family where both my parents rode and bred horses. That upbringing gave me a deep sense of respect for the outdoors, a thirst for adventure and a lifelong love for animals.

For me horses were always the natural path. Before I began taking photography seriously, I worked as a dressage rider and trainer, dedicating a large part of my life to educating both horses and their owners, something I still dip my toes into now! Horses have taught me patience, understanding, and calmness you just can’t learn any other way. I can’t imagine my life without some connection to them.

My love affair with photography started early, my mum has always been incredibly creative and tech minded and so naturally she always had a camera in hand. In my early teenage years she taught me the ropes and before long it became a given that we’d both be taking photos when out at pony club, trainings and competitions ☺️ It’s a passion thats never fizzled!

Even though I still sometimes struggle to believe in myself, I can’t think of a better way to spend my days than with a camera in my hand, outdoors, capturing the connection between horses and the people who love them most 🥰

Kicking off the week with this beauty! ✈️ 😍

Everyone I talk to at the moment is saying the same thing, that motivation is a struggle right now. And BOY do I feel it too! This damp, dark weather seems to be dragging us all down, but I refuse to let this time of year to get the better of me!
Something I’ve promised to myself is to utilise this time to put back in to my cup, it’s always a quieter time for me and I would be silly not to make the most of it!
Winter definitely is a hard old slog, but there’s always a silver lining to everything, we just have to look a little harder right now 🥲
