This is one of my favourite photos and post it each year and it reminds me not to take my mental health for granted and to just be kind to people, it was taken by my daughter and just as I was going back to work after the ultimate low of depression, it is also one of my favourites, as the person photographed with me is an absolute gem… my beautiful wife and she helped me get through it.
I believe everything happens for a reason, sometimes it doesn’t seem like that, especially when you’re in it, at one point of my mental health in my darkest time around 2015
I couldn’t face anyone, didn’t want to see anyone it was the worst I’ve felt.
If you’d have told me then, that I’d be running my own business, talking to hundreds of people every week at markets, doing brand shoots and pet portraits and setting up meetings I wouldn’t have believed that was possible.
I now try and help as many people as I can, as kindness costs nothing and you don’t know peoples struggles and what they’re going through.
I’ve met some amazing people through my business,
a business that was set up at the start of my recovery, which might not have happened if I didn’t go through my breakdown.
I always have to watch out for triggers, but with the support of my family and friends and through the mindfulness of photography, I’ve not been back there since it happened.
There are a lot of kind people out there which you can forget…but it is so important to check in on each other, be mindful on how we are with each other and don’t always think that how we behave is how we are feeling!
Thanks for reading and be kind … Richard
You’re never too important to be kind
