I’ve been through so many photos this week and there’s some things I’ve noticed:
1. My grandma was a f%cking fox! Jesus!
2. I look like my dad so much in certain photos it’s ridiculous.
3. The man had style.
Apparently he and my mum met when she was going out with his best friend 🙃 She went to meet that guy whilst him and my dad were trials biking in Adel woods, 4 months later her and my dad were married. 💪🏼
He used to jet ski and had a sick speedboat which he sold to buy the engagement ring.
2 years later I was born.
He had a 1973 Mach 1 Ford Mustang fast back …which he had to get rid of because there were no rear seats and they used to just sling me in the back in a baby chair (sorry dad - I would’ve kept it).
9 years later my sister Tam was born.
And just over a decade or so later my nephews were born and he became grandad.
What can I say? I’m an absolute mess, grief is the most surreal, devastating/yet beautiful experience ever.
I owe everything to this man. He was one of those people that was annoyingly good at so many things - drawing, DIY, building random sh%t in the garage, mechanics, fixing cars and bikes, cake decorating, photography, the list goes on. But he inspired me to always have a go at something you know nothing about - and if you like it, do it right.
My friends growing up would call him the mad professor cos there were always blue sparks coming out of the garage. They also called him The Terminator because he was massive and intimidating.
And as scary as he could be (when I p%ssed him off), at other times he had the most amount of patience, warmth, compassion, help and understanding of any man I’ve met.
He was qualified as a French chef and was head chef in kitchens for years. Then went into borstal work as a screw. After that he went into personnel work for LCC and in his latter years, ironically supported terminally ill staff members which I think suited him Perfectly.
