From things that move to those that don't.
A few questions on lighting stilllifephotography from some of you and in this example it really comes down to its most simplistic form, one light with modifier, Profoto B1X, magnum reflector, 3 studio flats and that's your lot!
On this shot I opted for a grid as I was shooting on my own and had no assistant, but a grid or an assistant holding a flag underneath so no light hits the product is another option, I've attached the set up so you can see how it was set up.
The Colorama was cappuccino colour and about 5-6 feet back from the Mulberry England handbag this means a light loss of 1.5 stops to achieve this rich Autumnal shade letting the deep aubergine colour of the bag pop, usually I'd shoot up at f11 and maybe 2-3 shots to blend together but this was captured at f6.3, ISO 200 and a shutter speed of 1/500 second on a leaf shutter pushing the background out of focus but capturing all the handbag details in one shot!
So, one light, 2, 8 x 4 white poly boards, 1, 4 x 4 poly board for one large soft bounced light source, no specular hot spots, just lots of detail, shot on Phase One straight out of camera via Capture One
As always thanks for reading and send your questions though to me at [email protected] always happy to answer what I can!
