A visitor from a cold winter’s afternoon last year at Harewood House 🦌

Same Red deer, two very different portraits:

1️⃣ Looking out across the grounds like he owns the place…

2️⃣ Staring straight down the lens like he’s judging my photography skills.

I’m torn between them!

Which do you prefer, 1 or 2? 😁

The challenge with famous locations is finding your own photograph ⚡️

Places like Alnwick Castle have been photographed countless times. They’re iconic for a reason, but that also means it’s easy to come home with exactly the same images as everyone else.

Loved walking round the castle spotting all the locations used in the Harry Potter films! Do you recognise any here? 😁

Here’s a ridiculously friendly squirrel at Golden Acre Park that decided to pose for a few minutes.

I’d gone out with no real plan other than taking the camera for a walk, and ended up spending longer photographing this little guy than I expected. Proper character face, constantly bouncing between curiosity and chaos like most squirrels seem to.

Travel days look a little different now.

Less racing around trying to photograph everything before sunset. More stopping for feeds, slower walks, and figuring out how to eat dinner without dropping food on a baby sleeping in a sling.

These were taken during a slow morning around Beadnell Bay with no real rush to be anywhere.

The coastline here has that perfect Northumberland atmosphere. Wide open beaches, soft light, sea air, and little pockets of life dotted around the shoreline like The Bae sitting near the beach.

One of my favourite frames from the set is Kayleigh carrying our little one along the sand in the sling (not that you can see the sling here).

And then the final photo pretty much sums up travelling with a baby perfectly: trying to eat dinner by carefully leaning over a tiny sleeping human strapped to my chest.

A skill they definitely don’t prepare you for.

Winter afternoons always feel more cinematic when the sun starts disappearing early ☀️

We spent a few hours wandering around Harewood House last winter while the light was dropping lower across the grounds.

The main surprise of the afternoon though was meeting this ridiculously friendly Highland cow on the walk back.

Perfect timing considering I didn’t have my longer lens with me.

Normally I’d want more reach for shots like this, but being able to get closer actually made the encounter feel more personal. You could properly see the texture in the fur, the steam in the cold air, and that permanently unimpressed expression Highland cows somehow always have.

The rest of the walk felt equally cinematic in quieter ways.

People crossing through the low sunlight with lens flare cutting across the frame. The gravestones surrounding All Saints’ Church, Harewood. Then finally the long view back towards the house itself sitting beyond the open grass and woodland.

Not every photography outing needs dramatic weather or huge landscapes.

Sometimes good light and a slow walk are enough.

Went to photograph the coastline…ended up photographing Jura instead 🐶

We were walking along Beadnell Bay when this golden retriever came charging through the surf completely locked into a game of fetch like it was the most important mission on earth.

His owners told us he was called Jura, named after the Scottish whisky, and honestly it suited him perfectly.

The goodest of boys.

I didn’t have my longer lens with me, so these were shot at around 70mm with a bit of cropping afterwards, trying to catch him mid-sprint through the waves before he launched himself back into the sea again.

Sometimes photography on trips becomes less about the location itself and more about the little moments that happen there.

A random dog on a windy Northumberland beach probably wasn’t what I expected to remember most from that afternoon…but here we are.

Springtime at 🌼

Dark stone walls, quiet paths, soft light everywhere…the kind of atmosphere that makes you slow down and actually look for photographs rather than just take them.

Between the film tour, hearing stories about Harry Potter and other productions filmed here, and wandering outside the grounds looking for compositions, there was no shortage of details to frame. Leading lines through the pathways, layers of old castle walls creating foreground interest, little pockets of symmetry hidden around the grounds.

One of my favourite moments though had nothing to do with photography.

Watching Kayleigh feeding Lyra just outside the castle grounds, surrounded by trees and open space, felt more memorable than any image I took that day. There’s something grounding about seeing motherhood happen naturally in the middle of an adventure day. No perfect setup, no convenience, just adapting and getting on with it together.

I think becoming a dad has changed the way I photograph places.

I still look for cinematic scenes and interesting light, but I’m paying more attention to quieter moments now too. The in-between parts of travel that end up meaning the most later on.

Alnwick Castle felt less like a tourist stop and more like stepping into a story for a few hours!

Stay tuned for some interior shots soon.

Well…it’s been a whirlwind 6 months.

Back in October I said I’d be taking a little break from headshots while we prepared for our biggest adventure yet…and safe to say life has looked very different ever since.

There’s still not been much time for headshots between nappies, sleepless nights, and learning how to be parents, but I have still been taking photos. Just different ones.

So moving forwards, this page is going to become more of a space for photography from our adventures and travels…anything from city exploring to nature and landscapes.

Turns out having a tiny human around gives you a whole new appreciation for capturing memories ❤️

I hope you’ll stick around for the journey!

To start, here’s my wife pushing our little one through a leafy tunnel on our recent trip to Alnwick Gardens in Northumbria, along with another shot looking up through the leaves!

After years of capturing faces and stories, I’m pressing pause on my photography business.

Why? Because an incredible new chapter is beginning, my wife and I are expecting a baby! 👶❤️

As we get ready to welcome this little one into the world, I’m stepping back to focus on family life and everything that comes with it.

Thank you to everyone who’s stepped in front of my camera, it’s been a real privilege.

I may be back in future, lets see how life unfolds!

Here’s to what comes next. ✨
