The "ghost town" in Cyprus is Varosha, a suburb of Famagusta. It has been largely abandoned since the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974. The area was fenced off by the Turkish army and remains a point of contention in the ongoing Cyprus dispute. While some parts have been reopened to tourists, the majority of Varosha is still off-limits.
