An emotional (but wonderful) morning spent at the new Midlands Air Ambulance Charity Strensham airbase, meeting the FABULOUS Dr K. who treated me at the scene and kept me alive during my ’life flight’!
It felt so good to say “thank you” in person and to hear her memories from the day. She was able to fill in at least some of the gaps:
I was awake and conversing much of the time (I remember NOTHING!) until the ketamine kicked in 😅
She had to transfuse me mid-flight as my blood loss became critical.
The flight to Bristol took just 18 MINUTES 😱
There were lots of laughs and dark humour, plus a few tears, but what an incredible thing to be able to do! Not just for myself, but for the medics who rarely get to find out what happened to their casualties.
These meetings are very much part of the air ambulance remit and are offered to anyone who wishes to do it.
Personally, I came away so glad I did, and feel it’s been another piece of my complex jigsaw puzzle finally slotting into place 🧩
What heroes these highly skilled and caring crews are 💪
*** HOW CAN IT BE THAT SUCH A VITAL RESOURCE IS FUNDED SOLELY BY DONATIONS???? ***
So, to that end, please think about choosing this amazing charity as your recipient this year ❤️ 🚁 ❤️
