A passing bull Grey Seal among the yachts and pelagic fishing boats at the end of the afternoon Noss Boat tour a few days ago! What a beauty! For their size they glide so effortlessly through the water.

Mesmerising boat reflections in Lerwick Harbour, boat blues contrasting with the black and white plumage of a Black Guillemot (Tystie). You don’t have to go far to see seabird photography opportunities here in Shetland, they can be right on your doorstep, or boat bow. 📸

We haven’t had good boat weather lately and our latest French 🇫🇷 natural history film crew are on standby for 3 consecutive days of operating with us off Noss. 🤞 ⛴️
We’ve scheduled Noss Boat tours still open for this coming Sundays break in the weather too ….. September can be spectacular at the cliffs!

American Black Tern, found and initially called as a Black Tern by Paul Slater on loch of Tingwall this afternoon and identified by The Noss Boat’s Phil Harris on close inspection later. So good to see this bird, only our 2nd after seeing one in Oxfordshire around 2009. Distant record shots but happy enough as it disappeared about 20 minutes after I arrived and had spent all the time I was there hawking over the water on the opposite side of the loch.

The most amazing Aurora - Mirrie dancers last night at Bigton and Sandsayre pier! The one at the Mousa boat here even has some of the offshore lightning storm which was happening at the same time! Incredible experience! This was taken around 12.30am

🌤 This afternoon will turn dry as rain clears northwards, with sunny spells developing in its wake. Temperatures will rise to 14 Celsius. Southwesterly winds at force 3 to 4.

🌦 Tonight will see showers moving in first thing, then turning dry in the early hours with clear spells. Temperatures will drop to 11 Celsius. Southwesterly winds easing at force 3.

▶️ Tomorrow will be an unsettled day with cloudy periods, sunny breaks and outbreaks of heavy rain. Temperatures will rise to 15 Celsius. South-easterly winds at force 3 to 4.
