Earlier this week I heard The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X discussing the random collection of pens in their studio.

As luck would have it, I had a box of branded pens in the office that we'd originally produced to promote our school prospectus photography services, so I thought I'd add a few more to the collection.

This morning Dominic Byrne and Adam Brown (who’s covering for Chris) kindly gave Chris Vaughan Photography a mention on air and, perhaps more importantly, confirmed that the pens are actually quite nice.

It's not every day your business gets mentioned on national radio, all because of a conversation about pens.

A very unexpected but much appreciated start to the day.

It's hard to believe that my daughter is only weeks away from completing her first year of secondary school.

That got me thinking back to when we were choosing her primary school.

While schools already know who will be joining them in September 2026, it won't be long before attention turns to the year after. The schools that start preparing now will be in the strongest position.

Updating your prospectus photography before the summer holidays gives designers the six-week break to refresh prospectuses, websites and marketing materials ready for the new academic year.

British summer photography in a nutshell:

5:30pm: "Actually, here's the nicest evening you've seen all year." ☀️

Thanks. Very helpful.

Every year we see organisations suddenly realise:

• their website imagery is outdated

• their team photos no longer reflect the business

• they’ve got autumn campaigns planned but no photography ready to support them

Summer is usually the ideal time to fix that calmly rather than rushing later.

Longer days, better light, and slightly quieter schedules often create the best conditions for commercial photography.

By the way, if your business is planning updated imagery before autumn marketing begins, now is a good time to start the conversation.

Always nice to get the confirmation that our FSQS registration has been successfully renewed for another year.

It’s one of those accreditations that probably doesn’t mean much unless you work in industries like financial services or insurance, or other highly regulated sectors, but for businesses operating in those areas, it matters a lot.

FSQS, managed by Hellios, is used by many larger organisations to make sure the suppliers they work with meet standards around areas like GDPR, cyber security, health & safety, and business continuity.

For us, it’s another reminder that commercial photography is about far more than simply turning up with a camera.

A lot of the organisations we work with trust us inside secure environments, around sensitive information, operational sites, major infrastructure projects, and with access to people and processes that aren’t always public-facing. That trust is something we never take lightly.

So while creative images will always be the end goal, working professionally, securely, and responsibly behind the scenes is just as important.

Really pleased to have successfully renewed for another year.

It's been a very long time since I’ve seen my work on both the front and back pages of the Lincolnshire Echo at the same time.

It was a real nice surprise to spot two of my images, distributed through Getty Images, dominating both covers following Lincoln City’s bus parade celebrations and an image of Michael Skubala with the League One trophy.

I genuinely loved my time working in newspapers. I had the chance to work alongside some brilliant people, cover huge moments, and learn quickly in environments where you only get one chance to get the picture right. Looking back, it was the perfect grounding for launching my own business.

I still think that newspaper background shapes the way I photograph today. So much of press photography is about storytelling and communicating a message in a single frame, and that’s something I still carry into every commercial shoot now. Whether it’s for marketing campaigns, PR, or documenting projects, the aim is always to create images that help tell the story properly.

I really enjoyed being part of the “More Than A Game” event at Lincoln City FC on Saturday alongside my Dad, Andrew, and Alan Long.

A huge thanks to Tanya Akrofi for inviting us to be involved. It was a genuinely special afternoon for our family, reflecting on a journey that started when I was 14 years old after responding to an advert in the club programme looking for photographers. I remember asking Dad to come and help because I thought it might all be a bit too much for me to do on my own. Fast forward 26 years and we’re still there together, now supplying images to Getty alongside the club coverage.

It was lovely to spend time talking about what football photography has meant to our family over the years. From those early days sitting pitchside with Dad, to now photographing games together professionally, it’s become a huge part of family life. Even my sister has stepped in to help cover matches over the years when fixtures have clashed with church services Dad has needed to take, and more recently Ola has photographed a couple of women’s games too.

One of the nicest parts of the evening was talking about the people around the football club. Over the years, we’ve photographed supporters, families, volunteers, staff, and the familiar faces you may only really see at 3pm on a Saturday… but who become part of your life through football.

Special mention as well to Alan Long, who we’ve worked alongside throughout the entire time we’ve photographed for the club. It felt very fitting to share the stage together.

Also slightly surreal seeing photos from the evening taken by Ola and Tomasz. Safe to say the next generation are already getting involved.

Since the end of the football season a lot of people presume I must be in hibernation until the new season kicks off.

As much as I’d love to be paid to sleep for a couple of months, I’m out working with a range of clients of a whole host of different photo shoots!

As if Saturday and the end of season awards the following day weren’t enough…

Today involved climbing a scaffolding tower inside to photograph the Lincoln Imp in a mini kit.

Not a sentence I expected to write this week.

A nice way to mark what the club’s achieved, and a reminder of how many different stories football can create away from the pitch as well.
