We finished the tour of #走馬燈26 on Sunday evening. From James, Faith, and Amber, thank you everyone who stopped and showed appreciation for the work.

The aim was always to catch people by surprise on the streets of Manchester and Liverpool’s Chinatowns and city centres, and we can confidently say we’ve done that. This format of digital artwork is special for this reason.

If you’ve seen our projections for , you’ll notice the frame by frame hand drawn style we’re going for.

This style is chosen to add a more hand-made, human quality to the piece, to try capture the beauty and intricacy of the various traditional art forms featured in the piece.

We decided to use a 10-frame cycle of the running horse for each artwork, but we’re ultimately rendering everything at 8fps. This way, we want each artwork and moment in the piece to have its own space to shine.

From a technical standpoint, Faith figured out she illustrated 40 frames of horse movement, plus 125 frames for our calligraphy, orthography and morphgraphy section. Everything was illustrated in Procreate, and I used After Effects for all animation and compositing!

Faith has been working hard on 《走馬燈》’The Running Horse Lantern’ animation, coming this Chinese New Year! They've studied each frame from Muybridge’s ‘The Horse in Motion’ and developed a cycle to illustrate with traditional Chinese artwork. We're excited to share progress ahead of our Manchester and Liverpool tour - stay tuned for location maps and dates!

We’re creating a brand new projection artwork for Newcastle Under Light, shaped by the people who know Newcastle best – you. Your words, memories and stories will become part of a large-scale artwork projected onto the Guildhall this March.

The Horse in Motion by Eadweard Muybridge is a groundbreaking series of photographs capturing horse movements in 1878. It paved the way for motion pictures. We’re turning this iconic work into a projected and animated art piece for the Year of the Horse, coming this February for Chinese New Year. 🐎

And just like that, the Little Galaxy Music Video is out! I hope everyone enjoys it as much as we enjoyed making it 🔭

This was my first attempt at making anything remotely like this and I couldn’t have asked for a better friend to work with. Bailey Marie put up with my crazy little ideas and cold nights and I think we pulled off something pretty cool?!
