Prince Charles saved St.Georges Hall.
On a visit to Liverpool in 1988, I was reminded just how breathtaking the neo-classical grandeur of St George's Hall is as you emerge from Lime Street Station," Prince Charles recalled (Liverpool Echo, 30 June 1994).
It was likely during this visit that he was later referring to when he said:
"I was shown around St George's Hall some 14 years ago on a private visit and was told then it was due to be demolished. I remember encouraging those I met to do all they could to save it."
His remarks highlight the uncertainty surrounding the future of St George's Hall at the time and his belief that every effort should be made to preserve one of Liverpool's most iconic landmarks.

St Anthony's Catholic Church: A Liverpool Legacy

Did You Know: St Anthony's Catholic Church
It was founded by a refugee: The original 1804 place of worship was established by Reverend Jean Baptiste Antoine Gerardot, a priest who fled to England to escape the French Revolution.
Prisoners of war worshipped there: During the Napoleonic Wars, French prisoners from a local jail were brought to the original "French Chapel" to attend services under the strict supervision of armed guards.
It was the heart of the Irish community: As Liverpool expanded in the 19th century, St Anthony's became the principal church for the city's rapidly growing Irish immigrant population.
The current building is nearly 200 years old: The congregation grew so fast that a massive new church was needed. The present-day Grade II listed building on Scotland Road was built in 1833 by John Broadbent, a pupil of the famous architect Thomas Rickman.

One thing we’ve noticed from the comments on our posts is how frustrated people are with the current state of Liverpool and the UK as a whole.

People are worried about rising sexual crime, violent crime, youth knife crime, the cost of living and the struggles many families are facing with housing and everyday life.

For many people, it feels like a country that was once thriving is moving in the wrong direction.

But something else stands out too. There are so many people who genuinely care and want to see things improve.

We have members from different backgrounds, including people who weren’t born in Britain, and they are just as passionate about these issues and about making our communities safer. That’s something we’re proud to see.

At the end of the day, looking after our streets and our neighbours is something that brings people together.

We believe things can change. It starts with people caring, getting involved and refusing to accept things getting worse.

Our children deserve safer streets, stronger communities and the same opportunities that previous generations had growing up.
