Only one place I know where you can see African Grey Crowned Cranes ,Marabou Storks and Pink-backed Pelicans all flying together as part of a 35+ bird outdoor flying show and thats Gauntlet Birds of Prey , Knutsford. I have to add they are all just beautiful to see flying together.

Cape Vultures are intensely social creatures: they feed together, fly together and roost together. Even so, when three of Vulpro’s captive-bred birds crossed paths in the wild, the vast southern African sky suddenly felt a whole lot smaller.

Yellow Black E86, Yellow Black E75 and Yellow Black E66 all started their lives at Vulpro’s Eastern Cape facility in 2025. Since their release, each young bird has spread its wings and ventured beyond its release site, navigating the wild independently.
Yet, true to their gregarious nature, their paths have crossed again.
On 2 September at 09:34, tracking data showed all three birds gathered on the north-facing cliffs of the Katberg permanent roost.
Seeing our captive-bred vultures navigate the wild, seek out safe roosts and gather alongside others of their species is always a welcome sight. Their presence also reinforces the importance of Katberg as an active roosting site for Cape Vultures in the Eastern Cape.

Three birds. Three independent journeys. One important roost.
And thanks to tracking, one remarkable moment we might otherwise never have known happened.

Nice to see Bhuna an American Black Vulture get an extended slot on International Vulture Awareness day on saturday and give us some beautiful flying 😍

While they might get a spooky reputation, these birds are critical to keeping ecosystems healthy and disease-free. Here are a few mind-blowing facts about them:

Smarter thieves:
Unlike Turkey Vultures, Black Vultures have a poor sense of smell. Instead, they soar high above and track Turkey Vultures to follow them straight to a meal!

Built-in AC unit:
On hot days, they practice urohidrosis—urinating on their own legs. The evaporation cools them down, and the strong uric acid kills bacteria picked up from carcass feeding.

Bulletproof digestion:
Their stomach acids are so concentrated that they can digest diseases like anthrax, cholera, and botulism without getting sick.

Tight-knit families:
They are fiercely loyal—mating for life and sharing roosting spots with extended family members to trade info on where food was last spotted.
