Passage

Captured during a visit to Dinorwic. I managed to capture the last of the autumnal colours before they are gone for another year. This scene feels fitting, showing the change of seasons and the passing of time at the closed quarry. Both feel to compliment the others as natures course continues continues onwards.

Images Captured using:
z8 and 14-24 f2.8 @ 19.5mm 1/80s f9 iso 400uk S6 Filters: polariser
Systematic Series 3 Tripod &
Gitzo Series 4 Ball Head.

The Last Dance

Captured in the classic location of Fanal Forest, I settled on this composition whilst there was no cloud in the woods. I set up and patiently waited whilst having time to just sit and take in the wonderful surroundings and array of incredible trees that make up this forest. Each so unique in its own right. Feeling very present and in the moment the whole time. I could happily spend a week in this one location and still be finding new compositions. Eventually the cloud rolled back in and once i felt it was sufficiently dense enough to mute out background distractions, I pressed the shutter and this was the result.

Emergence

Captured during a sunrise hike on the PR8 Peninsula trail on Madeira. It was the perfect time to get out the Nisi Filters and shoot a few long exposure seascapes. The contrast of the orange rock and greeny blue ocean was strong as the light was rising. Yet another memorable moment to take in.

Captured using:
Z8 & Nikon Z 14-24 f2.8 @ 23mm 6s f9 iso64uk S6 Filters: True Colour CPL, medium grad and 6stop nd

Dragons Landing

Captured on the return from the Pico Ruivo summit on Maderia, at a height of 1862m you are well and truly up in the clouds. It's a place that wherever you look you are greeted with an incredible vista. Seeing the clouds make their way through the neighbouring mountains was truly spectacular. Especially as the sun was setting casting some incredible side light and shades of colour. Certainly, one to stand and watch as nature gives you a show.

Captured using:
Z8 & Nikon Z 24-120 f4@ 51mm 1/640s f6.3 iso64uk S6 Filters: True Colour CPL

Gitzo Series 4 Ball Head.

Sway

Possibly my favorite location of the trip was Fanal forest. I could have easily spent days in this location scouting different compositions in between the swathes of clouds the micro climate here creates. It truly is a living breathing place that feels straight out of a Tolkien novel. If trees could talk this is where it would all have started. I only spent about an hour here but time felt immeasurable.

Captured using:
Z8 & Nikon Z 14-24 f2.8 @ 24mm 1/25s f11 iso64uk S6 Filters: True Colour CPL
Systematic Series 3 Tripod &
Gitzo Series 4 Ball Head.

Release

Captured during a sunset on the PR1 in Maderia i turned away from the setting sun to be greeted with some incredible hues as the mountain broke through the inversion. Sometimes simplicity is key and it was a stark reminder that on occasion the best shot isn't the one you have planned, but the one right behind you. Stay aware of your surroundings and really take the time to absorb the scene around you. Live those moments aswell as capturing them.

Breathe

Captured on the first day and first hike in Madeira this is one of, if not my favorite image of the trip.
On the return leg of this hike the mist rolled in and completely transformed this levada walk. The harsh highlights gone and a soft embrace closed in on the dense greenery and waterfall beyond. It was like being hugged by nature. It is moments like this that truly ignite my passion with a camera. What an incredible way to start the trip and I can't wait to share there rest of it with you all.

Z8 & Nikon Z 24-120 f4 @ 30mm 1/100s f7.1 iso80uk S6 Filters: True Colour CPL

Under the Horizon

Captured at the end of a long day touring round Wales. This was an sporadically added location to visit as the light looked promising. I missed golden hour but got to shoot one of my favorite mountains in perhaps my favorite valley in the UK, all under some serene blue hour light. Adding yet another memory to this wonderful part of the world. Sometimes the least planned shoots turn out to be the most rewarding. My camera also got a little peaty as I slipped bog on the way down but didn't miss a beat.

Adding this as my entry to and their call for their world photography day 2025 posts

Captured on:
Nikon D850 + Sigma Art 14-24mm f2.8 at 19mm, f10, 1.6s, iso 64.
