📞 Crinan Calls ❤️

There’s something special about an old red telephone box. Once an essential part of everyday life in villages across Scotland, these iconic red boxes have become a nostalgic reminder of a time before mobile phones — and they still add a wonderful splash of colour to the landscape.

Crinan Calls is the front cover of my The Best of the Rest Kitchen Calendar and also features inside my Summer Nights 2027 Calendar.

I love how the bright red telephone box stands out against the beautiful Crinan scenery — one of those simple scenes that just had to make it into the calendars.

🚢 A very special day at Crinan!

In May 2025, the famous paddle steamer Waverley docked at Crinan for the first time in 30 years — and I was delighted to be there with my camera to capture the occasion. 📸

There’s always something special about seeing the Waverley sailing through Argyll, but watching her arrive at Crinan after such a long absence made this one a photograph I definitely wanted to include this image my 2027 Along the Crinan Canal calendar.

It’s moments like this that make the canal so special — beautiful scenery, boats and a little bit of history happening right in front of you. ❤️

It’s a particularly rubbish night here in Argyll tonight, so I thought I’d go for a little throwback along the Crinan Canal. 📸🌧️

I took this photo exactly 225 years to the day after the very first boat sailed through the Crinan Canal — a lovely bit of local history to capture.

With the wind and rain outside tonight, why not cheer yourself up with some beautiful Argyll scenery all year round? ❤️

It was lovely to get a bit of Crinan Canal during the day for a change! 📸 The day job and all the markets seem to get in the way of visiting the canal during the day.

Dad and I headed along to Crinan Coffee Shop for a cake stop and to watch the boats go by. Sitting outside in the sunshine, it really felt like we were on holiday! ☕️🍰⛵️

It was certainly a day of boats in Oban today! ⛵️⚓️

The highlight for me had to be the magnificent Georg Stage. She is a Danish three-masted, fully rigged sailing ship which has been training young sailors for generations. At around 54 metres long, she really was an impressive sight in the waters around Oban and, of course, I couldn’t resist getting the camera out! 📸⛵️

It wasn’t all boats though — a lovely lunch at Piazza with my friend Alison, followed by a trolley load out of Home Bargains! 😂🛒 A pretty good day all round!

Since 2020, my calendars have raised over £20,000 for the Macmillan Unit in Lochgilphead, something I’m incredibly proud of.

For 2027, a percentage from my calendar sales will be going to Crossbasket House, part of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. ❤️

I love Crinan Coffee Shop at this time of year, as the evenings start to draw in and the lights come on. There’s something lovely about seeing the lights reflecting on the still water of the canal. 📸🍂✨

The Ballochroy Standing Stones on the west coast of Kintyre are a special place, especially around midsummer.

This photo appears in my Time Out calendar and also in the Best of the Rest section of my long kitchen calendar, which has proved very popular.

Around the summer solstice, the setting sun lines up towards the Paps of Jura. It’s amazing to think people may have stood here watching the same midsummer sunsets thousands of years ago. 🌅
