I completely loved shooting this brilliant photographer a few weeks ago. It's been such a long time since I've done any portraiture, I was a little nervous about the shoot.

I tried a few lenses to find the right one for the conditions and settled on the Helios 44mm f/2 which produces some fantastic sun flare and bokeh. It was a bright sunny day so tough conditions, but as the sun was setting I got creative and tried something new, for me. Pretty darn happy with these results! I think this first one is my favourite, but I love the others too.

ICM / 10-30s / 3 stop ND filter in daylight

A few years ago I tried out some ICM (In Camera Movement, moving the camera during the exposure) using trees as my main subject. It took me a long time of playing with the settings to get the effect I was after. When I'd figured it out I really enjoyed the process of making these shots and then editing them with a darker tone.

I haven't tried it since but may do again. It's good to push your limits of comfort and skill, that's how you learn.

A couple more from my hike along the South West coast path last year. Stunning location to try out some different compositions and ideas.

I shot Woolacombe Beach with a black & white edit in mind, really happy with how it turned out.
