This is the new Lola T70S.
It’s coming in two versions: S and GT.
The S (“sustainable” 🤔) is an FIA HTP historic racer, built to compete in historic racing or just to be enjoyed on track. I was pretty sceptical at first about how this could really be called sustainable, given the use case and the sort of people who race these cars — lots of flying, lots of events, often all over the world. But after asking more questions, I did come away with a better understanding of what Lola are actually trying to do.
They’ve developed two new processes.
The first is the bodywork. Lola has created a natural composite that is completely petrochemical-free, combining a natural fibre with a wholly plant-based resin system. They say it offers properties similar to carbon fibre, and the hope seems to be that this could eventually be used more widely in restomods and OEM applications for bodywork.
The second is a lower-carbon method of producing magnesium, although I suspect that is still very expensive.
Overall, Lola says the car delivers a 54% reduction in kgCO2e versus a conventional build.
The GT will be the road-going version — or possibly a race car that happens to be road legal, which may be the more accurate way of putting it. Either way, it should be wild: 500bhp, 890kg, and a rowdy V8. Only 16 will be made. (S+GT) and will be 7 figures (around the mid price of a T70 is what I could get from the team).
It looks fantastic, and they seem to have specced it in full “Sam spec” 😍
