I absolutely adore the gorgeous Sarah, and her two boys, William and Jacob.
She sends me images of simple cakes for them, and says “this theme, but I’m leaving it up to you”.
That’s not why I adore her, but it has contributed 😂
So when she sent me an image of a simple Iron Man cake for Jacob’s birthday, as a Marvel fan, I immediately thought “oh absolutely not. I’m running with this one”. 😂🙈
The 100% freehand painted Iron Man took around 4 hours, and is painted using lemon extract and dust colours.
This gives a watercolour-esque paint, which can be blended, but not built up, meaning every brushstroke has to be in exactly the right place.
Unlike painting with cocoa butter, which is like an oil paint, there’s no room for errors. It can’t be covered up by adding more paint, and it can’t be scraped off. You get just one chance to get it right.
I placed Mr Stark on a black sugarpaste covered cake, and added some gold to make it really pop.
Jacob’s name is made from hand cut modelling chocolate in an Iron Man font, and painted gold to match.
I’m a little bit proud of this one. 🙈 I REALLY enjoy painting, and once I’d stepped back from it, and readjusted my eyes to remove the painting blindness, I absolutely loved it.
I hope you had the BEST birthday EVER, Jacob!!! X###
