Sentinel of the North: MP3 Tower at Grosnez

Perched on the rugged cliffs of Grosnez, the MP3 Marine Peilstand tower is a striking remnant of Jersey’s WWII history.

One of nine planned observation towers, its cylindrical, multi-tiered concrete structure rises starkly against the horizon, a silent sentinel overlooking the Channel. The tower’s weathered surface, softened by time, contrasts with the vibrant greens and yellows of the surrounding gorse and heather.

The landscape stretches toward the sea, where the deep blue waters meet the sky, painted with soft clouds and a hint of twilight. The scene is one of quiet resilience, where nature reclaims the remnants of conflict, and the tower stands as a testament to both human ingenuity and the enduring power of the natural world.

Kernwerk’s Silent Door: A Portal to WW2’s Shadowed Past.

A weathered doorway and loophole in the Kernwerk Infantry Regiment HQ’s side wall, Jersey. The bunker’s concrete, scarred by time and nature, whispers of wartime secrecy. Rust-streaked vents and cracks tell stories of resilience, while the overgrown surroundings frame a haunting relic of German occupation and forgotten history.

A little over two years ago, our team had the privilege of presenting at the Imagining Tourists and Tourism Conference in Paris as invited guest speakers. We presented our work, Imagining Millbay Residency: A Meta-Fiction and Narrative Story Using Dialogue Journaling, which emerged from our Millbay Residency research project.

The presentation explored the use of dialogue journaling as a methodological and creative approach to examining place, experience, narrative construction, and meaning-making. The conference provided a valuable opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary discussions on tourism, representation, and how places are imagined, experienced, and narrated.

To conclude, the following FotoFilm offers a very brief glimpse into Millbay and its history:

Millbay’s Silent Canvas: Graffiti and Time at the Crossroads.

A weathered grey wall in Millbay, Plymouth, adorned with whimsical graffiti, stands beside a "TAXI" marked road. A lone pedestrian passes under a dramatic sky, blending urban art with the quiet pulse of history in this coastal Devon precinct - https://msp.im/j241123
