🚨 Tesla’s New Cybercab Is Already Facing a Safety Investigation ⚠️🤖

Tesla’s highly anticipated Cybercab has barely launched—and now US regulators are taking a closer look.

The NHTSA has opened an Audit Query into the new autonomous vehicle, which launched in Austin on September 3.

And there’s one detail making this especially interesting:

The Cybercab has no steering wheel and no pedals. 👀

Tesla says the vehicle meets applicable federal safety standards, but the regulator wants to examine the technical data and processes Tesla used to self-certify the vehicle.

The big question is simple:

👉 If there’s no steering wheel or brake pedal, how do traditional vehicle safety requirements apply to a completely autonomous car?

NHTSA says it supports autonomous-vehicle innovation but also has a responsibility to make sure federal requirements are followed.

That doesn’t mean Tesla has been found to have violated safety rules.

It means regulators are examining whether the Cybercab complies with the rules that apply to it.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has described the Cybercab as the future of transportation, while the company continues demonstrating the robotaxi around Austin. 🚕⚡

And this could become much bigger than Tesla.

As autonomous vehicles move from demonstrations toward real-world passenger services, regulators face a difficult balancing act:

Too many rules could slow innovation.

⚡ EV Charging Got More Expensive — But There’s a Catch 👀🔋

Electricity prices rose in July, with the average capped electricity rate increasing from 24.67p to 26.11p per kWh.

So, does that mean charging an EV at home is suddenly much more expensive? 🤔

Not necessarily.

The standard electricity rate isn’t always the number EV owners should be watching.

One of the biggest advantages of home charging is that you can choose when to charge. With a suitable smart EV tariff, charging overnight can be dramatically cheaper.

For example, the source highlights Octopus Energy’s Intelligent Octopus Go tariff at 8p/kWh.

A 60kWh charge at 26.11p costs around £15.67.

At 8p? Just £4.80. ⚡

For an EV achieving around 4 miles per kWh, that could mean roughly 240 miles for about 2p per mile on the cheaper tariff.

Compare that with petrol at around £1.60 per litre and a 40mpg car, which could cost roughly 18p per mile in fuel.

That’s a huge difference. 💷

But there’s an important catch: smart tariffs have eligibility requirements, and daytime rates, standing charges and your overall household usage still matter.

So the headline 26.11p/kWh figure doesn't necessarily represent what an EV driver actually pays.

The bigger advantage is flexibility.

Your car sits parked for hours overnight anyway. Why not let smart charging software choose when electricity is cheapest?

🚨 E.ON Says Petrol Cars Are “OUTDATED” — But Does Its Own Survey Really Prove It? 🔋⛽

A new E.ON Next survey has sparked a big debate after claiming young drivers see petrol cars as outdated as landlines.

But there’s an important detail hiding behind the headline. 👀

The survey questioned 1,500 people aged 17–20, described as “young or potential new drivers.” And only 23% said owning a petrol car was as outdated as having a landline.

That means 77% didn’t make that comparison.

So is “young drivers say petrol cars are outdated” really a fair description? Or is it simply the most eye-catching statistic? 🤔

There are other interesting numbers. E.ON says 55% wanted their first car to be electric, while 56% believed an EV would save them money.

But wanting something and actually buying it are two very different things.

The survey was also commissioned by E.ON Next, an energy supplier that promotes EV charging tariffs. That doesn't make the research false—but it does mean the commercial context is worth knowing. 📊

And there’s another wrinkle.

Other research cited in the discussion paints a more complicated picture of young drivers and EVs, including continued petrol use and concerns around EV price, charging and ownership.

None of these surveys necessarily “proves” the other wrong. They’re asking different questions to different groups.

That’s the real issue here:

A survey about attitudes isn’t automatically proof of future buying behaviour.

EVs may absolutely become more popular among younger drivers. But saying petrol cars are finished based on a 23% response is a much bigger claim.

The headline grabs attention.

🚨 Should You REALLY Scrap a Perfectly Good Petrol Car for an EV? 🔋⛽

A new study has sparked a huge debate after suggesting that, in some circumstances, replacing a working petrol car with an EV could reduce lifetime carbon emissions.

Sounds strange, right? 🤔

Your petrol car has already been manufactured. Scrapping it means building another vehicle, producing a battery and using more raw materials.

But the study’s argument is that an EV’s higher manufacturing emissions can eventually be offset by avoiding petrol-related emissions during years of driving.

The researchers’ model found that replacing a petrol car early could produce significant lifetime carbon savings, with the manufacturing “payback” potentially happening after several years of EV use.

But there’s a HUGE catch. 👀

A model isn’t the same as real life.

If you sell your perfectly good petrol car, it probably doesn’t disappear. Someone else buys it and keeps driving it. So the emissions haven’t necessarily vanished—they’ve simply moved to another driver.

And not everyone drives the same distance.

A high-mileage taxi, delivery van or company fleet could potentially benefit much sooner from electrification than a lightly used family car that only covers a few thousand miles a year.

🚗 The replacement car matters too.

Swapping a small, efficient petrol hatchback for a massive EV with a huge battery isn't the same calculation as replacing a thirsty, high-mileage SUV with a smaller EV.

So perhaps the real question isn't:

“Petrol or electric?”

It’s:

“Which vehicle should be replaced, when, and with what?”

A sensible transition could focus first on high-mileage vehicles, older inefficient cars, cleaner electricity, smaller EVs and better battery recycling.

🔋 EVs can offer major emissions benefits—but scrapping every working petrol car immediately may not be the simple green solution some headlines suggest.
