Tonic Housing, founded by our own founder James Greenshields, is a pioneering organisation, recognised as the first LGBTQIA+ care home in the UK—a concept that came to mind while he was on sabbatical. Graham Clayton-Chance directed, and as someone who is gay and deeply committed to LGBTQIA+ issues, he infused the film with heart and authenticity, bringing out strong characters with compelling stories.

The film is beautifully crafted, capturing the essence of a vibrant and real community that supports those who live there. What I really like is that through our involvement it feels like Inside Job Productions played a significant role in the development of what Tonic stands for, which aligns perfectly with our social impact values.

Through this work, we contributed to the promotion of an organisation that is not only valuable but also groundbreaking in its approach to care and community support for LGBTQIA+ individuals.

Collaborating with Sense on their Virtual Buddy promotion was a unique and rewarding experience. From the outset, they were keen to create an animation but were unsure about using real people, leading us to explore stop-frame animation, which was something a little different than they had done before, and gave us a chance to really experiment.

The film was directed by one of our animators Graham Clayton-Chance, and we got to work with loads of different creatives, involving aspects we don’t often do such as prop making. We took a lot of time casting individuals to authentically represent those being buddied.

Sense was particularly committed to casting someone with complex needs, ensuring the portrayal was both representative and genuine. This commitment to inclusivity aligns closely with our organisation’s values, as we believe real stories deserve real voices. The client was thrilled with the final product, feeling that it not only showcased their work effectively but also offered a fresh and innovative approach that was new to them.

How are they getting on?

We chatted to one of our recent production trainees, Mairead, to find out the impact of their time with us, and see what’s happening.

“During my Video Production Internship at Inside Job Productions, in collaboration with Rethink Mental Illness, I received expert training across video production and social media. With this training, I created short-form videos for Rethink Mental Illness’ social media channels and a short film. I wrote scripts for Rethink, the leading authority on severe mental illness in England, as well as directing, filming and editing all content. I brought crucial mental health awareness to a wide audience, increasing Rethink’s TikTok reach by 347%.

This internship proved to be a pivotal experience in my career and personal development. I regained confidence I had lost and made wonderful new connections. It not only supported me in securing my current role as Communications and Content Officer at OCD Action, but also opened doors to freelance filmmaking opportunities, including assistant directing Graham Clayton-Chance’s documentation of Cabaret Abolition. I am driven to continue using video to explore social issues and make a meaningful impact, and will draw upon the invaluable skills I learnt during my time with IJP!”

It's .

We're not that big on awareness days. Shock horror? What we mean is mental health is key to everything we do, all the time.

We reinvest all our profits into mental health projects, like our film production trainee scheme, and skills and employment projects in the criminal justice system.

We strive, and think we achieve, to be a great place to work. Fair wages, flexible hours, and a supportive team.

We allow our team to prioritise their health. Want to run before work? Fine. Need to come in an hour late because of a personal issue? We get it.

We create content that prioritises lived experience, because those are the voices that really matter.

You'll see a lot of people shouting about World Mental Health Today, and awareness is great, but please, make sure mental health matters to you Every Single Day.
