After such a bone dry Summer and Autumn, it’s wonderful to see the reservoirs back to full capacity again, and to watch the scary-as-hell ‘plugholes’ at Ladybower Reservoir overflowing into the dark bowels of the earth … or the River Derwent, whichever comes sooner. I was very lucky to get a welcome break in the clouds as I stood here, which lit up Bamford Edge and spilled some beautiful light on to the water.

A new and black and white landscape is forming ❄️🌨

We had a dusting of snow in the Peak District yesterday, just enough to brighten the hills and contour the edges. As I walked past this woodland of tall, dark pines, my eye was caught by a spotlight of sun spilling down through the trees. It completely lit up a tiny beech sapling, still proudly bearing its blaze of orange leaves, a little flame of colour and light in the gloom. Everyone needs their moment to shine, and I think this was hers. I'm glad I was there to see it.
