In November 2024 I popped over to the US for a week and travelled around towns near New York. I spotted a small sticker welcoming the LGBTQ+ community to a store in Katonah, and I couldn't stop thinking about it. The following year I visited Denmark and Sweden to investigate how these stickers are implemented elsewhere and was determined to bring them to Romford somehow!

Kaleidoscope applied to the Community Chest Fund last year to bring together the LGBTQ+ Community while co-designing stickers! There are two workshops left, tonight we are working on the wording of the sticker, and next month (Thur 28) we are putting our design together ready for printing!

Come along to these free sessions and have your say on our first Legacy project for Romford!

Lumiere Romford has just been shortlisted for BIFA Cinema of the Year—after only being open for 5 months. And we need your help!

We might not be your regular cinema, or even your favourite, but we’d really appreciate your support. A vote for Lumiere gives hope to hundreds of shuttered cinemas across the UK it shows there doesn’t need to be a big corporate vehicle to make a cinema work and that communities can rise up, like we did here in Romford and save their beloved picture houses.

Why should you vote for Lumiere?

* We provide more relaxed screenings for those with autism or dementia than any other cinema in the M25 and have a plan to create the most neuro-diverse screen in the UK
* We provide free movies for the over 60s every Thursday morning (paid for by our fundraising activities)
* Every Monday morning we have 2 parent and baby sessions for parents to keep up to date with the latest cinema offerings
* Since opening we have shown 87% of BIFA’s indie film list
* We champion retro cinema every week
* We offer space for for community groups to use regularly
* Each week we programme 5 movies on release date that are rarely make it out of Leicester Square
* We champion indie and foreign language film as equally as mainstream cinema
* For our members, we offer the best value cinema tickets in the UK
* We are a registered charity committed to use profits to improve the space for all
* Our staff live in our community, the decisions of what we screen are based on our team and local opinion, not a corporate engine hundreds of miles away, we find ways to screen 90% of all requests received

We’ve made our way to a list of some of the most impressive cinemas in the UK and one of very few in our region, so please take two minutes out of your day to vote for us and give our community something to be proud of. In return we’ll continue to build on our commitment to make a truly exceptional cinema in Romford.

You can only vote once, so please pick Lumiere!

What building should photographers have their names on? Should I build a large lens shaped studio?
