Have you ever wondered what prep happens BTS for a shoot? Here's a little campaign I did to help kickstart (which you should 100% tap out of this post for):
>> At the quotation stage, I asked about budget, number of photos and general themes (for this - they wanted something 'professional' yet relatable for scicomms enthusiasts of all ages and a showcase of the hosts' personalities)
>> One week before the shoot, I made sure to give outfit/makeup advice (mainly colours & coherance between the duo), props, location options and timings according to natural lighting
>> On the day, I acted as timekeeper as well as assistant (aka hair & makeup touchups) but mainly to make sure the shots are as consistant as possible. This includes:
>>> Understanding the purpose of each batch of shots - are they going on a website banner? Profile photo? Busines card?
>>> Checking with clients after every small batch of shots to ensure the results are as expected and adjust settings accordingly (e.g. choosing the correct aperture depending on the background blur we wanted)
>>> Testing different angles and positions to get the desired effect (in this case, we wanted both plandit and candid)
>>> Most importantly, leaving enough time to 'experiment' with more fun and unexpected pics! These can often become the 'mystery house' shots that make it to the final edits ππΌ
So there we have it, a little insight into the work that goes in before I even click. What are your experiences with photographers?!
