Reversing the meaning of words is a powerful weapon.
War becomes peace, and if you disagree, you are condemned to eternal freedom in prison.
It feels like surrealism, like nonsense, until suddenly you encounter it yourself. Until you see your relatives and friends stop saying obvious things, start calling them something else, first out of fear, and then as if they actually believe it.

None of this fits in my head.
And in this play, “Vanya Is Alive,” I suddenly saw that entire abyss. The full horror of that realization.

It is described so precisely, and performed so accurately, this transition from simply repeating what everyone says to realizing the terrifying consequences that this repetition has on your own life.

In November 2025, my work Mourning the Fallen in War was exhibited as part of the exhibition The Last Train at The Old Waiting Room, Peckham Rye Station.

This photo was taken after the outbreak of full-scale war in Ukraine, at a time when loss in the news began to sound like numbers. Forty dead. One hundred. One thousand.
I noticed that for me joy became difficult to access. Even when surrounded by beauty, sunlight, or celebration, something inside remained unreachable.

I don’t experience mourning as something that belongs to a sacred building. For me, the world itself is temple. I imagined a fragile memorial made of candlelight, not inside a church, but under the open sky, by the sea.
That it happened at sunrise matters to me. Dawn is a quiet form of hope that exists despite everything.

At this exhibition, I spoke about this work more than ever before. It felt strange how, at a certain point, something lived and deeply felt turned into a story, into words. And at that exact moment, it started to rain. The rain was so heavy that water began to pour from the roof, running down the wall where this work was hanging. I watched the water streaming down the surface like tears, and I felt it again, the very reason why I decided to make this work in the first place.

My sincere gratitude to and for their curatorial work. Special thanks to for his constant support and care throughout this process. And many thanks to everyone who came to the exhibition and viewed the project.

It doesn’t matter, right?
Salt looks like snow if you don’t put it in your mouth.

Zechariah after bathing in the English Channel, shot on a medium format analogue camera, with the print later placed in a salt solution for two years, allowing salt crystals to form again on its surface in an uncontrolled, organic way, 2023–2025.
