Photographing Black & White: Light, Exposure & Detail
This Monday's live class is going to be a practical demonstration all about light, exposure and understanding what your camera is actually capturing.
I'll be shooting tethered so you can see everything as I shoot, including my camera settings, exposure and histogram.
We'll work through dark and moody setups through to beautiful light, bright images, looking at how to retain detail in your shadows without overexposing your whites.
I'll show you how I use my histogram to know exactly what I'm capturing, what I'm looking for when adjusting my lighting and exposure, and how to recognise when you're starting to lose important detail.
We'll also look at the difference between what our eyes can see and what our cameras are actually capable of capturing, and why understanding this can give you so much more control when you're shooting.
The goal is to help you stop guessing and make more informed decisions in camera, whether you're working with deep, dark tones or trying to capture clean, beautiful whites with all the detail intact.
