The biggest mistake I see photographers make when directing clients?
Talking at them instead of communicating with them.
“Give me a smile.”
“Look serious.”
“Turn your head that way.”
Sound familiar?
Here’s the thing: you’re not photographing a mannequin - you’re working with a real human being. And most people need more than a list of bland instructions to feel confident in front of the camera.
An awesome headshot isn’t something you extract from a client.
It’s something you build together.
Yes, you can create a technically perfect image on your own.
Yes, a client can offer up a decent smile without much guidance.
But when you truly connect…
When direction becomes dialogue…
When the shoot becomes a collaborative process…
That’s when the magic happens.
Better expressions.
More trust.
Stronger images.
Collaboration > commands.
If you’re a photographer who wants more confident clients and better results, you’re in the right place. 👋
