On the closing weekend of June, I travelled by ferry from Newhaven (Sussex) to the delightful coastal town of Dieppe. Staying only for the weekend, I had one primary objective: to take part in a 140km cycling sportive through the three valleys surrounding Dieppe.

Still, with limited time in town, I was informed of something not to be missed — the Saturday market, one of the most celebrated in Normandy. In fact, it was crowned the “Best Market in France” in 2020 by Votre Plus Beau Marché. I woke relatively early to experience it, sampling local meats, cheeses, and bread, with the culinary ambition of throwing together a Bolognese to last the remaining two nights.

It would’ve been a downright missed opportunity not to set aside at least an hour to document the faces of those who roamed the stalls. The market thrived with stalls overflowing with farm produce such as cured meats and fresh cheese, to beige clothes and the occasional bit of charming old tat. As I made my way through the bustle of the famous marché these are some of the faces I documented on that day.

And if you made it this far. I got the fastest time for 140km distance 🏆

is a new book project that celebrates London’s landmark independent music venues, and I’m very pleased to have my photography included! Not only will this book help show how vital these spaces are, it will also reveal the history and untold stories behind each one. Sweaty Ceilings have launched an Indiegogo to help raise the money needed to create the book, and for every copy pre-ordered £5 is also donated to the Music Venue Trust, a UK charity that protects, secures and improves grassroots music venues.
