On my last trip to Barcelona I managed to squeeze a visit to Antoni Gaudi’s masterpiece that opened to the public after restoration in 2017. Casa Vicens is the first residential project, built between 1883 and 1885 as a summer residence, designed for stockbroker Manel Vicens i Montaner when Gaudí was only 31 years old. It is celebrated for its vibrant glazed ceramics and oriental-inspired design with integrated floral patterns and palm leaf ironwork reflecting natural geometry. It also features Gaudí’s first accessible rooftop terrace, designed for contemplation and views. Highly recommended seeing it if you’re visiting Barcelona, and like me, have already seen his other stunning creations.
