Pregnancy looks different on everyone, which is exactly why maternity sessions shouldn’t feel one size fits all.

Some women love soft and romantic, others prefer something cleaner and more modern. The aim is always to create something that feels like you, not to force you into a style that doesn’t.

You don’t have to feel completely confident about your changing body to book a maternity session. In fact, plenty of women come to me feeling a bit unsure about being photographed at all.

That’s why posing and guidance are such a big part of what I do. You aren’t expected to know where to put your hands, what angle works best or how to position yourself. I’ll guide you through all of that and create flattering, beautiful portraits that still feel like you.

Pregnancy can feel very different from how it looks in photographs. Sometimes seeing yourself through somebody else’s eyes is actually rather nice. ❤️

Newborn photographs don’t have to mean a whole gallery of sleeping babies.

I absolutely love getting some awake portraits too, especially when they give me expressions like this. Those wide eyes, tiny frowns and serious little stares are just as gorgeous.

A newborn session gives us time to work with whatever your baby decides to do on the day. Sleepy, wide awake, curious or determined to keep an eye on absolutely everything, they don’t need to behave in any particular way for us to create photographs you’ll love.

Cake smashes are gloriously unpredictable, which is a huge part of the fun. Some babies delicately taste the icing, some barely touch the cake and some make it their personal mission to distribute it across as much of the studio as possible.

The colours and setup can be planned to suit your little one, but what actually happens once they’re sitting in front of the cake is entirely down to them. If your baby is turning one in the next few months, it’s worth getting your session booked with plenty of time to plan everything.

Some babies arrive in the studio and very quickly make it clear that they are quite happy to snooze while I get on with things. Others have considerably more opinions about the arrangement 😂 Either way is completely fine.

Newborn sessions are led by your baby, so there’s time for feeds, cuddles, settling and breaks whenever they’re needed. There’s no pressure for them to sleep on command or fit themselves around a rigid plan. We work around them, and when they are settled we can create beautiful little portraits like this.

If you’re expecting, it’s always worth getting in touch before baby arrives so I can reserve space around your due date.

Not every maternity photograph has to be a big dramatic gown and a full studio setup. Sometimes stripping everything right back gives you something just as powerful.

I always like to include some simpler images that concentrate completely on your bump and the shape of your changing body, because these are the details that can become surprisingly hard to picture once pregnancy is over. You know you were pregnant, obviously, but remembering exactly how your bump looked and how you carried your baby becomes much less clear with time.

A maternity gallery can include the glamorous photographs, the beautiful dresses and the bigger statement images, but I think there should always be room for photographs like this too. Simple, personal and completely about you and the baby you haven’t met yet.
