My second day in Kenya was spent in Karura Forest with the incredible team at EYW.

We talked about life in Nairobi, I heard stories and sat together in silence.

I’m beginning to understand why people say Kenyan hospitality is something special.

We were on the roof of the school, looking out across Kibera. That view was a constant reminder of the difficulties many of them live with, but in front of me they were learning martial arts, laughing, encouraging each other and enjoying the experience.

As a photographer and videographer, I’m always looking for what feels real. I was shooting constantly. What I saw was that the happiness and freedom were already there it the conditions around them that can make that harder or easier to access. Opportunities like this can open up a different sense of what is possible.
