Rio from a helicopter with the Sony 28-70mm f/2. 🤌🏾

What an unbelievable experience! Highly recommend seeing a destination from the skies when you get the chance! 👌🏾

What I loved about the Sony 28-70mm f/2 was the flexibility. Wide enough to capture coastlines and broader scenes, whilst having enough range to isolate subjects like Christ the Redeemer. Coupled with the 61.0-megapixel sensor on the a7R5 you can really have some fun in post.

Favela Brass, Rio de Janeiro. (Part Two) 🎺

This final set of images continues my time documenting Favela Brass, a community built around music, discipline and opportunity. What began with just a handful of students has grown into a space where young musicians learn, rehearse and perform together, including taking part in Rio Carnival each year.

Photographing these students across the neighbourhood allowed me to see how deeply the school is connected to daily life. The streets, stairways and balconies become extensions of the classroom, spaces where confidence, identity and creativity continue to grow beyond the rehearsal room.

Returning to a music-led environment felt deeply personal. Having grown up playing trumpet, I understand how learning an instrument can shape confidence, discipline and belonging. Seeing these students support each other and develop their voices through music was genuinely inspiring.

I put together a small team and spent time listening, observing and making portraits that reflect both the individuals and the community that supports them.

My sincere thanks to , , lighting assistant .l.fontes, and guide for helping make this project possible.

Favela Brass, Rio de Janeiro. (Part One)

Favela Brass is a wonderful free music school for children from the Pereira da Silva favela and nearby public schools. It was started in 2014 by British trumpeter Tom Ashe, and now it helps 150 students aged 8 to 18 with wind and percussion classes, as well as early childhood music education. The programme beautifully blends traditional samba from Rio with the rich sounds of New Orleans jazz.

This project is especially meaningful to me. I used to play trumpet, and music has always been a part of my journey into photography, so spending time with these students and teachers felt like a full-circle moment.

I put together a small team and we visited the school and the local area, chatting, listening and making portraits.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to , , lighting assistant .l.fontes, and guide , who helped make these moments possible.

Kicking of the year with some good news! 🎉

My image of Ramon, my local fishmonger in Greenwich, has been selected as a winning image for the Portrait of Britain Vol. 8. What an honour! ☺️

The People of Rocinha Favela, Rio. 2025.

From spending two days here, the thing that was undeniable was the strong sense of community and how much people value eachother.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed me with open arms and allowed me to capture a slice of what looks like in Rocinha.

The new Sony 28-70 mm f/2 GM and 50-150 mm f/2 GM have become my go-to lenses for travel photography. Here’s why: 👇🏾

1. When capturing wide landscapes to set the scene, I used the 28-70 mm f/2. This enabled me to capture the sweeping glacial textures and mountain ridges in full detail without distortion.

2. Depth and isolation. At 150 mm f/2, the telephoto compression brought intimacy to distant trees and peaks shrouded in mist.

3. Colour and contrast. Both lenses delivered rich tonality and micro-contrast straight out of camera, which was perfect for the moody skies and vibrant Patagonian colours.

4. Lightweight and weather-sealed. From icy wind to rain, both lenses held firm and let me move freely through the tough terrain.

5. Consistent f/2 aperture – Whether shooting wide or tight, that constant aperture gave me clean transitions and stunning depth across the series.

6. One compact kit, endless range. Together, these lenses cover 28–150 mm at f/2, giving me everything from expansive scenes to tight details, while keeping my pack light and efficient.

7. Fewer lens swaps, which were crucial when trying to capture scenes in these harsh conditions.

8. When paired with my a7R5, it made for the ultimate set-up with no friction, whilst capturing images in high-resolution for printing.

Honoured to have two of my images featured in the Portrait of Britiain Vol.8 competition and book this year!

This is the second of my shortlisted images, a portrait of my local fishmonger in Greenwich, January 2025.

London is such a unique city, filled with a plethora or people from all walks of life and a place to break all stereotypes. The Portrait of Britiain really allows that to shine through and why I believe that this is more than just a competition, but a historic documentation and celebration of the diversity that makes this country what it is.

Thank you again to the British Journal of Photography and for the beautiful and important work that you do.
