interviewed me for this February’s issue! Lots of anecdotes, fun times spent in nature and favourite photos talked about (and me posing as a jag and looking questionable…) - have a zoom for a read :)

A big thanks to Sarah for reaching out for this, your questions were good fun!

Merry Christmas from Europe’s smallest bird, the goldcrest! It reminds me the most of a christmas bauble/the decorations on a Christmas tree but goldcrests are without a doubt, far prettier!šŸŽ„

The girl and the geese…

A little girl watching some Canada geese with her dad (I assume)… She put her scooter down to admire the geese as they swam past - it felt pretty special to witness her awe and wonder from across the river.

I took this photo in October 2021 in front of the putney rowing clubs, if anyone recognises those in the photo, let me know and I can send them the high res photo!

Happy guys!

Photo 1 & 2 are of a female and male jaguar taken with a DSLR camera trap in Peru’s Amazon rainforest, photo 3 is me posing as a jaguar to test camera trap settings, photo 6 is a drawing I did as a 6 year old, jaguar obsessed boy…

All photos taken with sensor, housing and triggers, Nikon sb28 flashes and a nikon d7200 + lots of tape and Tupperware boxes.

FULL STORY BELOW AND IN COMMENTS

As many of you know, I have a guilty pleasure for jaguars. So many people do and to be fair, how could you not?

I’ve been to the Peruvian Amazon rainforest three times, living there for over a year cumulatively in the field, but I’ve never actually seen a jaguar. I’ve had many near misses and sensed their presence everywhere, including seeing fresh jaguar faeces, fresh prints and claw marks on trees. I don’t mind not having seen one yet, it only makes me love them more. They keep appearing in my dreams, which is always a nice feeling, but I’ve always wanted to capture one on a camera trap.

On my first trip, I took a terrible black-and-white, blurry photo of one with an off-the-shelf camera trap, and the obsession was triggered. I now wanted a jaguar to trigger an upgraded camera trap system so I could get a nicer photo. So on my second trip, I brought a DSLR camera-trap setup with me, and by chance, within two months, I managed to get a shot of one. But the photo wasn’t sharp and had lots of issues that needed improving.Ā

A DSLR camera trap consists of a DSLR camera inside protective housing (to protect it from rain, humidity, termites, and ants), a sensor, and flashes to illuminate the scene. The camera is then positioned in the field where you think your target animal might walk past. So if an animal walks past the sensor, it detects the movement and sends a signal to the flashes and camera, triggering them simultaneously.

On my third trip, I stayed in the jungle for eight months. With more practice and time under my belt, I had my best chance of getting that crisp shot I’d been chasing.

But a couple months in and disaster struck! An Amazonian flash flood had submerged my entire system…

Have you heard of the International League of Conservation Photographers?

And have you heard of their amazing ā€œPrints for the Planetā€ sale, where 100% of funds raised go directly to conservation?

Here’s the rundown: is an incredible community of photographers and filmmakers dedicated to driving conservation action through ethical visual storytelling. I was accepted into this wonderful community in September 2025 as an Emerging League Member, and I couldn’t be happier.

My photo ā€œBlack Headed Gullsā€ - featuring these beautiful gulls flying at sunset above Bristol’s famous Avon gorge, is part of the sale and available as one of 50 limited-edition prints.

Your purchase directly supports conservation efforts.

If you’re interested in buying this photo, or any of the many other stunning images from fellow , follow this link (also in my story): https://printsfortheplanet.com/

And if you want a discount code, send me a DM!

About the photo: Black headed gulls (in winter plumage) and a juvenile lesser black backed gull flying in some gorgeous light in Bristol’s famous Avon gorge… Gulls and other birds use this gorge as a highway to navigate. The play of light effect you see here is thanks to the gorge’s shape and position - at sunset, sun rays don’t hit the background trees but they still catch most flying birds. Bristol, UK.

I’m super happy to announce I’ve made the shortlist of with these two photos - the first in the arachnids category and the second in the insects category!

Photo 1 - ā€˜Mars and the Moon’ shows a spider egg case suspended with silk between the two ends of a dead leaf. When I found it during a night walk in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest, it immediately drew my attention. It looked like something from out of space - like a planet, its orange/red colour resembling Mars. I thought it would be funny to try and make the leaf look like a giant crescent moon.

Photo 2 - ā€˜Beauty Paradox’ shows hundreds of hatched pupae (cocoon) from parasitic wasps that are lining a caterpillar (Sphingidae sp). The caterpillar has obvious aposematic (warning) colouration but this was no deterrent to the mother wasp who chose this host to lay her eggs in.

Parasitic wasps are parasitoids: they lay their eggs in or on an invertebrate host for the eggs to hatch and feed on the host while keeping it alive. Once the larvae have eaten enough, they pupate and eventually emerge from their host as adults only for the cycle to begin again.

Congrats to all the shortlisted photographers for their incredible work and thank you to and the judges for choosing two of my photos :)
