The snow is gone here in Freiburg (it is snowing in the mountains though). The clouds are hanging low over the city covering it like a blanket. Yet, the forest still feels magical.

Do know this feeling when you look outside and everything looks dark and gloomy and you literally have to force yourself to go on a walk? And then when you walk slowly, actually look at the scenery, the soft light, you notice the beauty in it. Our minds tell us, fog and dark winter days are dreadful and we long for warmer days filled with sunshine. We then fall into the trap and walk around feeling miserable.

This is how I felt yesterday, after having had a rough difficult day, feeling stuck. I dreaded taking Yuki for a walk in this weather. Until I stopped and actually observed the situation and scenery to notice the beauty in it. How the fog creates layers and makes the first look like an oil painting.

It didn’t solve my problem. It did stop my looping thoughts and suffering that my mind is so accustomed to, though. A first step to retrain my brain and build new pathways.

Comment with a 💛 if you can relate!

With the days getting colder it seems the sunrises and sunsets are getting more and more breathtaking. For the last couple of weeks we've had some beautiful sunsets that painted the sky in all the colours of the rainbow and casted this surreal light on Freiburg.
Last Sunday I found this spot which offered a different angle on Freiburg and the Black Forest. People were sitting on the grass or logs, having a small picknick or a glass of wine. Some even had a fire going. (all were adhering to Covid regulations, stayed in groups of two or three and kept their distance)

Do you love watching the sunset? What is your favourite thing about it?

One of the last photos I took in 2018 and one photo from the first day of the new year.

Both were taken in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland at roughly 2.500m

It's almost the middle of May, yet spring still has us waiting for warmer and sunnier days. Then again, I love fog! It creates such an eerie and mystical atmosphere, which has me running outside with my camera in hand.

I took these photos with my iPhone and I am still waiting to finish that roll of film. I am so curious to see the photos side by side once I get this roll of film developed... 😊

This weekend we drove to find snow. And snow we found! Everything was white, even the sky which made for a lovely even light. And despite all the white there was so much texture in all those different shades of white. It really looked like a sculpture, like a fairytale. This is winter as its best.

This time all these images were shot digitally on my Nikon D500. I took a few photos with my Contax G2 and can't wait to see how they come out.

Many people associate Dresden with baroque castles and old churches and … well … with anything old or traditional really. These photos show the other side of this city.

The other day I walked around Dresden Neustadt and tried to capture the more grungy and colourful part of this city while also trying a new to me film stock.

After having lived and studied in the UK for three years, London feels like my second home. People who know me, know how much I love this city. And this is not because of the main sights that London is famous for, but this love for the city is rooted deeper. It's those changing neighbourhoods, the grunginess, the energy and vibe of the city or obviously for all the great people that I can call friends.

One of my favourite things to do in London is grab my camera and just walk and walk and walk (or taking the bus - the bus is probably the best means of transport to get to know this city a little better). This time I brought my 35mm analogue camera, a Contax G2 with the 28mm lens, and some Kodak Portra 400 with me and just tested it. As I had some focusing issues with the previous roll of film, I was excited and happy to see that these came out just fine.

Some people prefer sun, a sandy beach and turquoise water when it comes to choosing a destination for a mini vacation. Although, I have to admit that I do too appreciate those things, I also enjoy the solitude and quietness of a forest on a foggy winter day. Taking the dog for a long walk and not meetings anyone can be so soothing, especially when the days are usually filled with deadlines and meetings.

All photos shown here were shot on an analog medium format camera: Pentax 645nii + 35mm, Portra 400 rated at box speed, developed and scanned by the guys at Carmencita Film Lab

Give me a forest, fog and Kodak Portra 400 any time and I am as happy as can be. This combination is magical! First I was reluctant to leave my DSLR at home, but I am so happy I did.

If you're hesitant to pick up that old analog camera that you have laying around, go and give it a try. It somehow is much more rewarding and a lot easier than it seems! And … no more time spent editing all those photos!
