It's been a strange year without my Dad

Golf, 4, Romeo, Mike, Charlie

We won’t talk about it, not really.
Not the way the world expects.
No grand declarations, no polished grief,
No open wounds for strangers to inspect.

We won’t say his name just to fill the silence,
Or drape his absence in empty words.
He was here, and now he isn’t—
And that should be enough to be understood.

We won’t count the days like debts unpaid,
Or measure loss in candles burned.
A year has passed, and yet, it hasn’t—
Grief ignores the clock and the world still turns.

We won’t pretend time mends all things,
It only folds the ache away.
Not gone, not less, just quieter now,
A whisper woven into every day.

But we will remember in the way that matters
In the echoes of laughter, in hands held tight,
In lessons learned, in love unspoken,
In the quiet knowing:
He was, and is, and always might.
