Makes a change to see a photo of an empty sports stadium that wasn’t a result of Covid. This was the result of a rain check at in New York a few years ago. My first and only ever baseball game that never happened.

Didn’t stop the beers flowing both inside the stadium and in the local dive bars in the Bronx.

Great to start seeing artists release new work and get some dates booked in for their tours, either later this year or in 2022. The music and events industry has been severely affected by the pandemic, with some famous old venues sadly being closed for good. Hopefully with light finally at the end of this dark Covid tunnel we can gradually get the entertainment world back on its feet, for everyone’s benefit.

Here’s at from a few years ago. If you’re (very) lucky you can catch Ben’s stripped-back mini UK tour at various independent venues to celebrate his new album The Whiteout.

Can’t wait to be back shooting gigs and content for live events soon (hopefully). There’s something really special about the anticipation in those moments where it’s 9:04pm on a Tuesday evening and the background music gets turned down, the lights go down and then you know it’s show time. Just magic.

Here’s at in 2018 for

BEHIND THE LENS • Dermot Kennedy

Anyone who is lucky enough to see live will tell you how completely captivating his performances are. You walk away knowing you’ve been part of something special and I’ve not seen many artists leave it all on stage on the same way Dermot does. Every performance feels as if it could be his last such is the intensity and presence felt on stage.

I captured this portrait after Dermot’s fantastic performance on the stage at festival in 2018. I rushed from the photographer’s pit after his performance round to the back of the stage where, after checking with his management team to see if Dermot would be up for a couple of portrait shots, I waited for his arrival. Sometimes you can spend too long looking for the perfect backdrop for a portrait. I prefer to capture whatever is in scene to provide a sense of authenticity to the situation. And the backstage of the marquee stage was full of blue textured material that I thought was perfect as a backdrop. After a bit of post gig small talk I took some shots of Dermot looking down my lens. However, this was my favourite shot of the set, and was one of the first taken, as I caught Dermot with his eyes closed as he adjusted to the bright light outside after coming off stage.

I will be releasing new live prints of that I took the following year at the same festival so, if you’re a fan then keep your 👀 peeled for updates soon.

It feels like we're in touching distance for being able to attend outdoor events again and I cannot wait to get back out shooting at festivals and capturing candid moments of people either getting lost in the music or just enjoying themselves.

Here's a few shots of mine from Latitude Festival to kick off your week and get you excited about days like this returning soon.

Giving myself that by looking forward to many more days of lunchtime mayhem somewhere up in the French Alps. That first post-Covid ski holiday is going to hit differently for sure.

Happy Friday.

During lockdown I decided to expand my portfolio with some self-initiated projects, so I started playing around with various branding photography. Was great to be forced to work with various backgrounds and materials that I had surrounding me at home and definitely got me thinking creatively. Here's a test shot I produced of Camden Hells lager.

Always keen to work with new brands to help produce content. Get in touch if you want to discuss any opportunities.
