Thirteen years (& counting) behind the lens for the Bocuse d’Or UK Team. Every time I’m reminded of the significance this global event holds in the culinary world & for the young chefs competing.
It’s months of practice - the blood,sweat & tears type of practise! Then, there’s the honour of cooking in front of your culinary heroes, the leading figures in world gastronomy. Added to that there’s the audience of friends, of family, of the whole team who’ve worked to land you where you are - the sponsors, the mentees, the team of creatives, the families. All there to watch you cook in the competition of a lifetime.
This collection is from the European Finals in Marseille - where teams fight for a place at the world finals in Lyon, 2027.
Each image holds a moment - the focused concentration of plating- chefs in sync as they build their creations, moments of the audience (young and old) holding their breath, cheering them on & celebrating their accomplishments.
The UK team is back in the kitchen — Chef Oliver McGeorge and commis Stella Harris, the first female chef to compete for the UK, with Chef Ian Musgrave coaching and Chef Clare Smyth as president.
This is what I love about culinary documentary photography — tracing the highs and lows, the elation, the concentration, the moments a team pulls together and performs. You’re all completely incredible!
