The Shard reflects the golden light of sunset from behind London Bridge on one of the few clear winter days we had in the UK so far this year 🇬🇧

I wanted a better shot than the one I got from in November last year, so I went back. There’s always an eclectic mix of people — mostly tourists — up at this, one of my favourite, viewpoints. But with the exceptional weather last week (particularly after how bad it has been!), there was a real sense of spring in the air, and it’s genuinely felt like warmer days are coming.

Because they close the balcony at 6pm every day, as of Wednesday next week, it won’t be possible to see sunset from here again until October. When I’ll probably be back… The views from inside are almost as good though, with St Paul’s, the London Eye, and even Westminster Palace in the distance to the south west, and Tower Bridge, and Canary Wharf to the east, it’s an iconic spot from which to watch the city below.

London at nightfall viewed from 🇬🇧

I finally got a chance to visit the amazing Horizon 22 last week when there was a confluence of both my availability and that of tickets to this incredible viewing gallery. And I’m so glad I did... Views for days!

Here’s a selection of my favourites. Which one is yours? 🏙️

A boat drifts along the water at dawn in Dubai Marina 🇦🇪

I actually forgot my tripod head on this morning excursion but fortunately have an L-bracket on my camera which has screw holes on the bottom, one of which, either by luck or design, being the same size as the thread on top of my tripod.

Awkwardly screwing my camera into the top of my tripod probably looked odd, but I managed to get it attached and level enough to get this shot of a boat drifting into frame as the sky starts to illuminate with light from the morning sun.

I always enjoy walking around areas like this at daybreak before many people have awoken to start their day; it’s one of my favourite things about doing photography like this and always puts me in a pensive mood. Who would you stroll around the marina with?

Sunset views of The Gherkin from the 40th floor in the City of London 🇬🇧

I’ve made a solid start to 2026 by finally capturing this iconic scene of sunset behind 30 St Mary Axe, viewed from Duck & Waffle in Salesforce Tower, Central London. I’ve been here a couple of times, and intended to go many more to try to capture this image, but was thwarted either due to poor weather or circumstance.

The Gherkin is one of my favourite skyscrapers — it is unique and instantly recognisable as a London landmark and is easily the most striking structure in the City Cluster, if not all of London. At only 180m tall, it’s not winning any height awards, but it’s sleek aesthetic is unlike any other.

This area of London is fascinating, with hyper-modern steel and glass skyscrapers mere metres from hundreds-of-years-old Elizabethan, Tudor & Medieval buildings. It’s one of my favourite places to stroll around with a camera.

A huge thanks to the staff at for securing me this spot before the light faded. The only thing better than the views from up here is the food.

Daybreak high above downtown Dubai, United Arab Emirates 🇦🇪

You don’t need to stay in a £200/night hotel to get the best shots of any city, but it helps. In Dubai, it ensures unparalleled access to views like this. While I was hoping for the rare and magical meteorological phenomenon of Dubai fog to coincide with my visit (which only happens a handful of times each year), staying in the excellent Shangri-La Hotel ensured I would be able to photograph it at a moments notice.

Alas, I was not lucky enough for fog to form on any of my mornings here, so I could have just turned up and paid the access fee like everyone else, the panorama from this viewpoint is magical regardless of the weather (or the price). While there is a calmness I enjoy to shooting locations at sunrise, there was a palpable stillness and serenity from way up on the 42nd floor which I didn’t expect.

A big shout out to all the staff at for the wonderful service I received during my 3-night stay. The room upgrade was not only unexpected, but afforded me some of the best views of the city from my own room — bested only by venturing out to the balcony three floors up. And it’s a venture well worth the early wake-up call to take in views like this.

Late evening in Dubai Marina, UAE 🇦🇪

I’ve always wanted to visit Dubai and, after landing early on this typically warm and hazy day in the city, I made the marina my first shoot location. Considered dull or even controversial by some, it’s admittedly not a city for everyone. But as someone who adores architecture, skylines and the buzz of a city, how could I pass up visiting the home of the world’s tallest building?

I had every intention of staying late and capturing light trails of boats passing under the bridge as daylight faded and the city lights began to illuminate. And while I did do that for some time after this photo was taken, this shot of the sun peeking behind one of hundreds of high-rise buildings in the city is one of my favourites.

Getting lost in Dubai Marina Mall after this was not on the agenda though.
